New study reveals the harsh reality of violence and harassment in Saskatchewan schools
A joint release from the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation and the Canadian Union of Public Employees is sounding the alarm over what they call the disturbingly high rates of workplace violence and harassment in Saskatchewan schools. This comes after the release of a study by University of Ottawa researchers that reveal the widespread instances of physical and verbal violence experience in Saskatchewan school.
Suspect in local robberies deceased following police chase
The hunt for a suspect involved in a string of robberies across east central Saskatchewan came to an end in a field following a chase with RCMP.
Joseph “Joey” Desjarlais, age 34, was wanted in robberies near Naicam, Humboldt and in Yorkton. Multiple RCMP units were involved in the hunt for Desjarlais when a report came in about a presence in the Fishing Lake First Nation area.
Police presence has ended in Fishing Lake First Nation
A police incident has ended on the Fishing Lake First Nation, although Saskatchewan RCMP are still asking the public to stay away from the area where police are present.
In a news release, Sask. RCMP said there is no further risk to the public.
Earlier in the day, RCMP investigators received information that Joseph “Joey” Desjarlais was in the area.
HCAA Jr. Golf District Championships results
The HCAA Jr. Golf Districts took place on Tuesday at the St. Brieux Regional Park Golf Course.
Tylan Wallin of Humboldt St. Dominic (74) won the Male title, while Alyxa Melstad of Wynyard Comp (93) won the female title.

Lake Lenore's Claire Moorman named to Team Sask Women's U18 hockey sqaud
A female hockey player from Lake Lenore has been selected to represent Saskatchewan on the national stage.
Claire Moorman was one of 20 players named Team Saskatchewan’s roster for the Women’s National Under 18 Championships from November 3 to 9 in Quispamsis, N.B.
The tournament features players that were born in 2007 and 2008.
Nomination forms available for upcoming elections
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2024 Municipal and School Board Elections.
Qualifications to run are available on the City of Humboldt website.
The nomination period is open from Tuesday, September 24 until Tuesday, October 8.
Nomination Day will follow on Wednesday, October 9.
Humboldt Theatre Club holds auditions for its 10th performance
The Humboldt Theatre Club is hosting auditions and a behind the scenes look at its upcoming performance. The auditions go on Friday, September 27 at 7 pm or Saturday, September 28 at 2 pm at the Humboldt Gathering Place.
“You can show up fill out a form and meet with some of the cast, “says Club President and play director Sarah Miller. “Then you just have to read from a script. This production is a special one as it is our tenth production since we started.”
Riders sport Indigenous logo for September 28 game
The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be sporting a new Indigenous logo at this Saturday’s game.
A release from the Riders says the logo was commissioned in recognition of the Club’s deep commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. The logo will be sported on the helmets and on graphics throughout Mosaic Stadium and on broadcast television on the September 28 game.
RCMP seeking information on suspect charged in multiple robberies
A man previous wanted for robberies in Wadena and Melfort, has now been charged for a robbery in Yorkton.
Saskatchewan RCMP WEST is asking members of the public to report all sightings and information on the whereabouts of 34-year-old Joseph “Joey” Desjarlais.
On Sunday, September 22, at about 2:05 am, Yorkton RCMP received a robbery report on Smith Street.
Road Closure: 10th Street Sept.24-25
A road closure will happen for a couple of days this week in Humboldt
The 700 block of 10th Street will be closed on Tuesday, September 24 and Wednesday, September 25.
Repairs to the residential water service and a lead service replacement will occur during this closure.
The City of Humboldt apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks residents for their patience.
