Province shows impressive increases in building investment

The provincial government reported Statistics Canada August numbers on investment in building construction in the province. Saskatchewan showed an increase of 87.1 per cent compared to August 2021, ranking first among the provinces in terms of percentage change.

The value of building construction investment in August 2022 was $491 million.

Government boosts funding for television and film industries

When the major motion picture “Percy,” featuring Christopher Walken in the role of Bruno Farmer Percy Schmeiser, was shot, director Clark Johnson steered clear of Saskatchewan in shooting the drama. Instead, the film that chronicled Schmeiser’s controversial legal case with Monsanto was shot just outside of Winnipeg. The story at the time was that incentives and tax credits made Manitoba a more attractive backdrop.

Three local athletes win big at Provincial Pass, Punt, Kick competition

Three local athletes in the Wynyard (Horizon School Division) District were recently crowned as Provincial winners at the 2022 Provincial Pass Punt and Kick Competition that was held this past Saturday in 
Saskatoon and Regina

Winning in the 10 and under girls Pass category was Chloe Christianson from Archerwill - 64 feet 4 inches
Winning in the 8 and under boys Pass category was Rhett Olafson of Foam Lake - 70 feet 6 inches
Winning in the 10 and under boys Pass category was Davis McLeod from Wynyard - 73 feet 5 inches

Broncos host Grey Cup Watch Party

Got a conflict with the Grey Cup and the November 20th Broncos home game? Fret no more -  the Broncos have got you covered.

They're hosting a Grey Cup watch party on the Jumbotron at the EPA. 

The Broncos home game against the Flin Flon Bombers will go at 3:00 pm with the watch party right after at 5:30. There's a guaranteed 50-50 draw,  food and drinks, prizes and more.

Humboldt Hammerheads hands out hardware

The Humboldt Hammerhead Swim Club handed out the hardware in their October 16 awards ceremonies. Hammerheads Leisl Lefebvre thanked swimmers, parents, and all those involved in the efforts of the speed swimming teams over the past year.

Among those receiving recognition were high point female Lauryn MacLean with 190 points, High point male Cohen Gasper with 148, top novice Ridge Beggs, most improved female to Esther Osborne and most improved male to Noah Zimmerman.

Local Co-ops and Conexus Credit Union help celebrate Co-operatives Week

The Humboldt/Lanigan Co-op and Conexus Credit Union are celebrating Co-operatives Week with a pair of pancake breakfasts. The Humboldt breakfast went on October 18 and Lanigan diners will have their chance on Friday, October 21 at the Lanigan Legion Hall. The breakfast will be held from 7:00 - 10:00 am. 

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed October 16-22 as Co-operatives Week in Saskatchewan, recognizing the contributions made by local co-ops to Saskatchewan's economy.

Broncos back on track following weekend wins

The Humboldt Broncos scored a pair of solid wins over the weekend. 

On Friday Night in Nipawin, they clipped the Hawks wings in short order with an impressive 11-4 win. Newcomer Jacob Boucher struck twice in the first, as did four other Broncos to jump to a 6-1 lead by the end of the frame. Boucher would notch another pair for the hat trick during the evening. Joining in on the first period onslaught were Sam Marburg, Alec Saretsky, Ben Kotylak, and Cage Newans who would also score a hat trick on the evening.
