STARS Critical Care on the Air Radiothon Presented by BHP raises over $430,000 for STARS operations in Saskatchewan
STARS’ annual Critical Care on the Air Radiothon presented by BHP across 40 radio stations in Saskatchewan raised $433,548 to support STARS operations in the province.
Throughout the two days, community members tuned in to hear courageous and generous stories from Very Important Patients (VIPs), members of the STARS flight crew, community allies, and many more.
Humboldt Theatre Club goes sleuthing with "The Secret Case of Sherlock Holmes"
The ninth production of the Humboldt Theatre Club is on the way with its staging of “The Secret Case of Sherlock Holmes.” The comedy chronicles the life of young Sherlock before his first break.
The show runs from Thursday, May 2 to Sunday, May 6 at the Community Gathering Place.
Wakaw/Cudworth Hoodoo Fire Department attend brush fire
Early spring dry conditions led to a brush fire burning out of control 18km west of Wakaw near Highway 312. Responders received the call on April 15th at 6:27 pm.
Firefighters from both the Wakaw and Cudworth halls responded with three Wildland trucks, one tanker and one command unit. On scene firefighters arrived to a fire that was burning out of control in heavy brush. High wind speeds created multiple spot fires in different areas and hampered firefighters' ability to control the fire.
Macrame workshop and teen art display at the Gallery
Everything old is new again, says Jennifer Fitzpatrick, director of the Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery. That explains the return of macrame, a mainstay of 1970’s craft culture, and an associated workshop at the Gallery.
“You can make a vintage inspired macrame wall hanging at the Gallery on Saturday, April 20 for only $20 per person,” says Fitzpatrick. “Spots are filling up fast, so call in to get your spot today.”
Update: Wet snowfall leading to road woes
Reports are coming in regarding slippery road conditions in the region. Several reports from Highway 5 east of the Highway 2 junction to Saskatchewan have roads slippery with several cars in the ditch through the construction zone. The combination of wet snow, near zero temperatures and gusty north winds are making for slippery conditions. Snowfall is expected through the next 24 hours with similar temperatures and wind conditions throughout that period.
SaskEnergy gas flaring near Beatty
SaskEnergy will be conducting controlled natural gas flaring at the TransGas valve site, approximately half a kilometre north of the Village of Beatty, in the RM of Flett’s Springs. Flaring will take place between 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 16th and 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on April 17th, to change based on operating requirements.
Residents and drivers in the area may see a 40-foot flame being emitted from the flare stack temporarily attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure.
The Reid-Thompson public Library Receives Donation for Summer Reading Club
The Reid-Thompson public library has received a donation from the Humboldt co-op. Totaling $3,500 to put towards the summer reading program.
New immigration legislation designed to strenghten workers' and employers' positions
Saskatchewan has introduced new legislation designed to strengthen its immigration systems and protect newcomers and their employers. The new Immigration Services Act replaces the Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act, bringing all authorities related to immigration in Saskatchewan under one piece of legislation.

Humboldt Lanigan RCMP detachment is seeking the public's help in solving a trio of area crimes.
On the morning of March 21, a local hardware store in Humboldt was the victim of shoplifting. A photo of a person of interest is below.
Over the nights of March 22 to 24th, a public building was damaged and money was stolen in Lake Lenore.
Finally, over the night of March 27 to 28, a public building in St. Gregor was broken into, and stereo equipment and a projector were stolen.
This weekend marks 2017-2018 Humboldt Broncos Day and Green Shirt Day
Communities of Humboldt and surrounding areas join with the province, country and the international community to mark the 6th anniversary of the Humboldt Broncos Bus Tragedy.
At the March meeting of City Council, Mayor Michael Behiel signed a pair of proclamations honouring the legacy of the 2017-2018 Humboldt Broncos.
The proclamations acknowledged the tragic bus accident that resulted in the heartbreaking loss of 16 people and the everlasting impact on 13 survivors, families and the community.
