Hospital Home Lottery announces winners

The Hospital Home Lottery, supporting the efforts of Saskatoon’s three hospitals, is in the books, and a huge shout out goes to all this year’s winners.  

Winner of the $2 million Grand Prize Showhome, built by Fraser Homes in Edgemont Park Estates, along with $50,000 cash is Jamie Stow of Martensville.  

The 50/50 Add-On Cash Prize winner was Marguerite Wapple of Biggar, who took home a prize of $597,150.  

Road closure today on Main Street

The City of Humboldt advises motorists of a road closure happening today on Main Street between 3rd and 4th avenue.

Motorists are asked to use 7th or 9th Streets as a detour route. The work is estimated to be wrapped up today, April 3.  The work is necessary to repair a watermain.

Humboldt Museum hosts meet and greet for Sports Hall of Fame Inductees

It’s a busy weekend coming up for local sports enthusiasts and those who chronicle the accomplishments of our home-grown heroes. The Humboldt and District Museum welcomes some recipients of this year's 2024 Sports Hall of Fame induction for a meet and greet on Saturday, April 6.  

Michael Suchan, Lyndon Rush, Brianne Theisen-Eaton and Jocelyne Moe will be on hand. Meet them, get their autographs, ask questions, and enjoy some refreshments as you check out the Museum’s latest exhibit about their extraordinary accomplishments. 

Federal and provincial funding goes toward decommissioning old Humboldt landfill

Humboldt and area stands to benefit from funding announced by the federal and provincial governments for investments in green infrastructure projects across Saskatchewan. A $45 million sum will be channeled to increasing the supply of safe drinking water, effective wastewater treatment and cleaner soils. 

A release from the government announced the funds on March 16 by Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Sean Fraser and Saskatchewan Government Relations Minister Don McMorris.

UPDATE: RCMP investigate multiple deaths near Neudorf

RCMP are investigating four deaths that occurred at a rural residence near Neudorf following a request to conduct a wellness check. The call came into Melville RCMP at approximately 6:05 pm on March 24.

The four adults were found deceased inside the resident. The deaths are being considered suspicious and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has taken charge of the investigation in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service.

RCMP says their investigation indicates there is no immediate risk to public safety. More on this story as it unfolds.

SaskTel expands 5G network to area communities

More locations around Humboldt will receive SaskTel’s 5G service in communities and travel corridors as the communications network announces 30 additional cell sites across the province. The expansion will see improved service and speeds for residents and travellers in the identified areas.  

Regionally, the communities of Dafoe, Elfros, Lanigan (north) and Viscount will be among the expansion locations.  

Additional job action set for schools prior to spring break

While teachers have wrapped up a one-day rotating walkout in the Horizon School Division, the STF has announced additional sanctions next week before the 
Easter break. 

The job action includes provincewide withdrawal of extracurricular activities from Monday, March 25 until Thursday, March 28 and a rotating withdrawal of noon-hour supervision on Monday, March 25 by six local teachers’ associations.

The Monday noon hour withdrawal will not affect schools in the Humboldt area. The impacted teacher organizations are:
