Weekly Hockey Wrap Up: U18 Muenster Flyers top league
There was cause for celebration in Muenster as the U18 Flyers topped the East Central Minor Hockey League with a 4-1 victory over Strasbourg last night.
The U13 Humboldt Broncos 1 team know who they’ll face in their league final. They’ll advance to face the Muenster Flyers after they knocked off Humboldt 2 in semi-final action.
Broncos take two game lead in opening series against the Hawks
The Humboldt Broncos will be heading back to the Cage in Nipawin with a two game lead over the Hawks in their first round playoff series. The Broncos took back to back home games at the EPA handily this weekend.
Province announces arrival of fifth plane for displaced Ukrainian citizens
On March 14, Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison announced that registration is now open for the fifth flight carrying Ukrainians displaced owing to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The flight is being arranged in partnership with the humanitarian organizations Solidaire and Open Arms. The flight is expected to arrive on March 27. The final logistics of the flight, including which city it will land in, are still being confirmed.
SGI tallies insurance fraud attempts in 2022
Fraudsters are everywhere these days, and everyone needs to be vigilant. No organization is more aware than SGI’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) who’s seen its share of individuals trying to pull a scam for insurance money. A release by SGI states that the SIU busted hundreds of fraudulent insurance claims resulting in $58 million savings for the Crown insurer.
SGI presented some of the more eyebrow raising attempts at an insurance scam in 2022.

It’s a situation that can only be called “a crisis.” That’s how Saskatchewan Union of Nurses President Tracy Zambory describes the state of nursing in the province. Zambory says SUN is dedicated to seeking solutions, and it may go as far as enabling a dedicated task force
“There is not the time, there is not the capability and there is not the staff to give safe patient care in most of our facilities in the province anymore,” she said to news outlets.

Pair of wins over Yorkton draws Broncos regular season to a close
The Humboldt Broncos will face the Nipawin Hawks in the first round of SJHL playoffs that fires up this weekend. But before then, the Broncos had some unfinished regular season business with the Yorkton Terriers.

Gallery and Futuristic Industries team up for stellar screenprinting
Humboldt art lovers, including plenty of artistic hands from Futuristic Industries, partook in a screenprinting afternoon at the Humboldt and District Gallery on Saturday. Local artist Annah Gullacher led the creative and colourful workshop.
The art work involved applying multi colours to a glass plate and then manipulating the image with textures like yarn or bubble wrap. Then the resulting swirls of colour are transferred to paper or fabric.
A next gen curl fest at CurlSask Triples Cup in Humboldt
It was a packed house at the Humboldt Curling Club this weekend for the U12 and U15 Triples Cup Competitions hosted by CurlSask and presented by SaskMilk. Dozens of participants, parents and fans made their way to Humboldt from all across the province. It was the inaugural U12 event which produced a solid participant base. The Hit Draw Tap competition proved popular with the younger set.
