SaskTel Infinet coming to surrounding Humboldt communities

SaskTel has announced that 48 communities will receive SaskTel infiNET services as part of its sixth phase of its Rural Fibre Initiative, and some communities in the surrounding Humboldt area are part of this initiative. 

SaskTel’s plans to begin the process for Phase 6 in 2023/24 and anticipates the locations will be fibre-ready by the end of March 2025. 

Road bans and road weight restrictions approaching

It’s that time of the year when temperatures begin to warm up, and road beds begin to soften up. That means next week the province’s secondary highways revert to regular regulation weights. Truckers will need to monitor weights of their cargos.

"It's imperative we protect our road network at this time of year by reducing the weights trucks are allowed to carry," Highways Minister Jeremy Cockrill said. "On different occasions throughout the year, we adjust allowable weights to ensure the efficient movement of goods while protecting our highway infrastructure."

Broncos playoff tickets on sale Sunday

The regular season is rapidly winding up, and that means playoffs are just around the corner.

The Broncos office at the Humboldt Uniplex will be open on Sunday, March 12 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm for fans to pick up round 1 playoff tickets. 

Ticket prices are: 

  • Adult - $18
  • Youth - $12
  • Child - $8
  • Under 5- Free

SaskPower plans for power outages in surrounding Humboldt areas

SaskPower is preparing for some planned power outages near the Humboldt area. 

SaskPower will hold a planned outage on Friday, March 10 affecting those in Fulda and rurals west of Fulda. It will take place from 1:00 - 5:00 pm. 

Another outage will take place on Friday, March 10 affecting customers in Beatty, Kinistino, Meskanaw, St Brieux, Daylseford, Yellow Creek, James Smith First Nation, and all rurals northwest, west, and southwest of Melfort. The outage will take place from 2:30 - 5:30 pm.

The Humboldt and District Special Olympics received some more medals on March 5. 

Team 1 gold medal recipients at provincials are:

Rib tickling and finger licking good time in Lake Lenore

Just when you thought ribs couldn’t get any more succulent and flavourful, along comes the sophomore Rib Fest courtesy of the Lake Lenore Knights of Columbus. The gathering and homage to all things “Pigsickle” happened on Saturday night at the Lake Lenore Community Hall. 

Rib Masters Tom and Gina Ripley and family of Lake Lenore got help from Glen Gerwing and a host of Knights to put on the supper and entertainment. The evening’s proceedings were led by Dennis Gerwing, who said the second effort was looking even more successful than the first. 

Broncos' Sam Marburg wins prestigious Rotary Scholarship

Just prior to Saturday night's Humboldt Broncos game against the Battlefords North Stars, Broncos’ forward Samuel Marburg received a special award from the Rotary Clubs of Saskatchewan. This was the fourth annual presentation of the Humboldt Broncos Rotary Scholarship. Rotary District 5550 and those from beyond donated a total of $10,000 to establish five annual scholarships for Broncos.

Broncos provide all-out excitement in weekend split with Battlefords

The Humboldt Broncos turned up the late season excitement when they faced the Battlefords North Stars this weekend. 

The home and home ended up in a split with a Friday night victory in North Battleford's Access Communications Centre. The Broncos skated away with a 5-3 win after a 1-1 first period. Broncos’ defenseman Quinn Myles opened the evening with a goal assisted by Daylan Weigel. Battlefords’ Steven Kesserling, one of the top producers in the league, replied just over a minute later. 

Shake the Shamrock with the SPCA

St. Patrick’s Day will soon be upon us and for those inclined to the wearing of the green, there’s a great way to celebrate in Humboldt. 

The Humboldt and District SPCA is holding Shake the Shamrock on March 17 as a special St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser. It’s an evening of tasting, testing, and tantalizing treats provided by local chefs and the province’s brewers and distillers. Look forward to a night of entertainment, provided by the SPCA and its volunteers, with a whole heap of help from its friends. 

Muenster Community Daycare splashes into spring with a special draw

Fundraising carries on for the Muenster Community Day Care Centre, and Wednesday night marked a special night for the lucky winner of their Cheer Wagon. Thanks to generous donors, the organization sharked up a wonderful wagon filled with late winter libations and special spring spirits. Kelly Quessy was the winner of the draw held at the Muenster Community Centre.
