Leslie Wilkinson Volunteer Appreciation Award To Carrie Dutchak

(Written by Ray Whitton)

Good things become great things not by accident, but only because exceptional people are willing to donate their time, talent, heart, and soul to the cause, and this, is who Leslie Wilkinson was in both her personal and professional life.

A staple for many years in the Broncos front-office, Leslie gave tirelessly to those she supported. Her selflessness extended out into her community with her enthusiasm for service, contagious.

Western farmers in a bind due to federal decision on pesticide use

Western provinces are concerned about a federal regulatory agency’s decision that could have a detrimental effect on crops. The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has changed approved uses of lambda-cyhalothrin, used in the control of grasshoppers and flea beetles. The regulatory body dictates that the product can’t be used on crops that will be used as livestock feed, and as a result, manufacturers have ceased distributing their product in western Canada.

Mixed results for Broncos in weekend skirmish with Hawks

It was a weekend of mixed results for the Humboldt Broncos as they doubled down with the Nipawin Hawks. The Broncos suffered a 4-3 Friday night loss.

Going into the third the Broncos were ahead by a goal, thanks to a first period opener by Ben Kotylak and a follow up by Cage Newans in the second. However, a quick trio of period 3 Hawks goals, including a pair by Alex Ochitwa, put the Broncos in the red. Ethan Zielke, with support from Cage Newans and Tim Kim, narrowed the gap to one, but it was too little, too late.
