Temporary road closure: Main Street at 2nd Ave
The City of Humboldt wants residents to know about a road closure.
Due to an unexpected water main break between 3rd Avenue and 2nd Avenue, Main Street will be closed in this section at 10:30 am today (February 7). Work is expected to take approximately 1-2 days. Please use an alternate route.
The City apologizes for the inconvenience.
Celebrate Saskatchewan Archives Week, February 7-11, at the Humboldt & District Museum
The Humboldt and District Museum presents Quill Plains Winter Games, an exhibition of archival photographs and documents. Visit the sports, fun, and excitement of the region’s Winter Games throughout the years. The exhibit will be on display at the Museum with online content on the Cultural Services website, humboldtmuseum.ca, and its social media platforms.
Calico Gymanastics athletes win big at home competition
Calico Gymnastics Xcel Bronze level athletes swept the podium on the uneven bars this past weekend at their home competition. Of the 173 athletes that attended the 2 day Calico invitational competition this past weekend, 18 were home town Calico athletes.
BHP renews commitment to save lives with $1.5M gift to STARS
A generous $1.5 million donation from BHP Canada Inc. was announced on February 3 at the STARS base in Saskatoon. The gift continues BHP’s investment in the health and safety of communities across Western Canada by supporting STARS’ mission operations, as well as contributing to its new fleet of helicopters.
BHP has been a long-time supporter of STARS, and this latest commitment brings the resource company’s total support of the charitable air ambulance organization to more than $6.3 million since 2012.
SaskPower has multiple planned outages in store
SaskPower is planning a number of power outages affecting customers in and around several communities.
On Tuesday, February 7, an outage is planned for customers in Lanigan from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The outage will affect residents in the 0 block of Downing Drive and rural east and north of Lanigan. The power outage has been rescheduled to Tuesday from a previous date.
Broncos manage Millionaires on Friday night
The Humboldt Broncos took the upper hand early and closed out a 6-1 win against the Melville Millionaires on Friday night.
Alec Saretsky and Cage Newans opened up scoring in the first. It was all Broncos in the second with Carsten Kayter and Saretsky with a second closing out the second frame.
Regina's Kelly Knapp Team is Brier bound
Team Knapp has been on the radar of Saskatchewan curling for years, but the club from the Highland Club in Regina stepped into the spotlight at this year’s SaskTel Tankard. The team went undefeated through the event, and in the final faced Steve Laycock, a veritable legend in provincial curling, taking the Tankard with a 5-4 win at Estevan’s Affinity Place on Sunday.
Faster internet coming to Crystal Springs, Yellow Creek and area
The communities of Crystal Springs, Yellow Creek, Tarnopol and surrounding areas could be seeing faster internet speeds and more stable broadband in the near future. It’s thanks to a collaboration through the Rural Broadband Partnership Program (RBPP) .
Stafford Communications plans to expand its network to underserved parts of rural east central Saskatchewan. Communities will experience speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
Government sparking increased access to health services; Opposition unconvinced
Given the increasing challenges of finding a family physician in rural Saskatchewan, Humboldt included, and in some communities accessing adequate emergency and on-going health care, the Government states its leaning into the problem. In a February 2 release, the Moe government states that it’s looking at innovative ways to increase patient access to a variety of health care services and to build capacity within our healthcare system.
Carlton Trail College expanding program opportunities starting 2023-24
To continue to strengthen Saskatchewan’s workforce and to meet the healthcare needs of residents, Carlton Trail College is expanding its post-secondary program offerings for 2023-24, especially for students and young adults interested in health careers. The news came via a release from the College.
