I don't know about you, but Ashlyn and Rustyn Paul are hoping to feel 22.
The Swift Current mother and daughter have gone viral on social media seeking the perfect night when they see Taylor Swift on November 21st in Toronto.
They made a sign and posted it online as they end up dreaming they'll convince Swift to give Rustyn her 22 hat at the concert.
"We cannot wait," Ashlyn said. "We've got quite a bit of traction with the sign. We really hope Taylor Swift sees as it as we don't think it'll make it in our luggage. We're hoping people will just keep sharing it, liking it and maybe by some stroke of luck Taylor Swift will see it."
Swift gives away a hat at every one of her shows. So it's miserable for some hopeful fans and magical for others at the same time. USA Today even wrote an article giving advice to fans on the process.
"The 22 hat is kind of special," Paul said. "To either a kid or an individual who is kind of going through some tough times. It's something she needs to be aware of. We're just hoping that Rustyn gets to be the one."
The sign says "Hey Taylor! I'm 7 years old and I'm battling leukemia. I have 2 goals: 1. Beat cancer 2. Take home the 22 hat! I'm in section 134 seat 13. Must be a sign."
Some may say of social media that this place is too crowded, but the sign still has garnered enough attention to get 489 likes on Instagram and 149 shares on Facebook.
Whether or not Rustyn gets the sign, everything will be alright when they finally get to see their idol in concert.
"It's kind of surreal," Ashlyn said. "I don't know if it's set in yet that we're actually going. I've loved her for 18 years. She's really carried me through some tough times so it's crazy to me that I'm actually going to see her in concert at the biggest tour of all-time."
We won't be sleeping if we wait for them to agree on who is the bigger Swift fan.
"I think just because I'm older than her and I've listened to her longer -- " Ashlyn said as Rustyn interrupted her. "No, no, no!" "I guess it's up for debate."
As for Rustyn's cancer, they're happy and free to be at the next stage of her care.
"We are in the maintenance portion of treatment," Ashlyn said. "We just follow the same cycle until October 2025. We just have monthly treatments now. It allows us to kind of have a little more freedom and she gets to be a kid again."
Whether they get the hat or not, getting to see Taylor Swift together means Ashlyn and Rustyn will just keep dancing like they're 22.
