The southeast will see temperatures come down to below freezing next week as a system will come in to move the area into winter-like conditions.
That comes after a Colorado low is expected to dump snow over the weekend, though Environment Canada meteorologists suggest the cold snap will come too late to keep any of that around.
Meteorologist Stephen Berg says that we'll see a close-to-zero system settle over the southeast for at least a couple of days.
"It looks like by Tuesday or Wednesday, high temperatures will be into the close to 0 mark. So anywhere from about -2 to +2 or so, that seems to be the consensus among the model guidance anyway, might be a bit lower in a couple of spots or a couple of days."
"Got a bit of a trough coming through, I guess by that time. More cooler air is coming in from the north and bringing the temperatures down."
While it's difficult to tell for certain right now Berg says it's possible we'll be out of double-digits weather for the rest of the month by next week.
"Hard to tell for now, but it looks like that might be the case. Looks like for the next I guess 7 days stretch from Tuesday onwards, that'll be into that near 0 or below for the high temperatures. So getting a little bit closer to the seasonal values."
Between freezing weather and potential precipitation, Berg reminds people in the southeast to be prepared for whatever comes by.
"Just for the snowfall anyway, be quite careful on the roads, it'll be quite slick and the visibilities might be cut down quite a bit, so might not be able to see that much in front of you, and if you're out on the roads with some of the heavier wet snow too. So just to be extra careful when you're out on the road."
