Incumbent Swift Current city councillor Leanne Tuntland-Wiebe comfortably held onto her seat Wednesday night in the municipal election.

Tuntland-Wiebe finished in third place overall in the election garnering a total of 1,984 votes.

"I had a few butterflies in my stomach," she shared. "It's an honour to have people elect you to do such an important job and be a voice for their community."

Tuntland-Wiebe explained that she had fairly high hopes going into the election as she's proud of the work she's accomplished and is passionate about helping community members

"I wasn't quite done after the first four years, I have a few more things in mind so I thought I'll run again and see what happens," the now two-term councillor said.

She is keen to remain focused on the City's debt and finances heading into this next term.

She noted that her election evening was spent alongside her son and husband following along with the updates.

"I'd like to say that I'm going to miss Pat Friesen and John Wall and I'd like to thank them for their service to our city," added the city councillor. "I look forward to working with the new council and Mayor Al Bridal for the next four years."
