Swift Current's Ron Caswell secured one of three seats on the Chinook School Board, with the other two spots going to incumbent trustees.
The former power engineer is hoping to focus on addressing issues with class complexity and give the parents of students a voice.
"I'm quite happy with the result, I'm very much looking forward to hitting the ground running and seeing what we can accomplish in the next four years," the newly elected trustee said.
Caswell is keen to work on improving communication between the Department of Education and the Chinook School Board while taking active steps towards the school division reaching its full potential.
"I really want to deal with classroom complexity," he shared. "There have to be several things that we can do almost immediately to improve that,
"Of course, I'm only one voice on a board of ten and the returning members have already dealt with this to some degree so I'm sure I've got some learning to do on that."
It was a special night for the family as Caswell was elected to the school board, and his daughter, Courtney Stewart, was elected for her first term as a city councillor.
"I would just like to thank everybody that came out to vote," he added. "This is a huge part of our democracy and we really do need to exercise our vote when we have the opportunity."
