It was a good weekend for a pair of hockey teams from Weyburn.

The U13 A Young Fellow Gold Wings were off to Calgary on the weekend, where they would play in Wick Fest, one of the largest female hockey tournaments in the country. The Gold Wings would make it through round-robin undefeated and then go on to win the Platinum Championship.

The Gold Wings opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Southern Express Friday morning. They followed it up with a win over a familiar foe, beating the Swift Current Wildcats 4-3 Friday afternoon. The Gold Wings then played the Central Alberta Twins Saturday afternoon and skated to a 3-3 draw. They closed out the round-robin with a 5-4 win over Calgary Fire White, securing a spot in the finals.

In the tournament finals, they would face the Central Alberta Twins once again. The Gold Wings would skate to a victory this time, beating the Twins 3-2 to clinch the championship.

The other team with a good weekend were the U18 AA Apex Gold Wings. They travelled down to North Dakota for three exhibition games and came away with wins in all three.

The weekend started Friday when they played the Minot High Magicians. The Gold Wings would get goals from Ella Schenher, Bostyn Runge, and Samara Seghers as they skated to a 3-2 victory.

Saturday they would play the Magicians again. It would be another win. The Gold Wings would get a hat trick from Brooke McKinnon and goals from Schenher and Seghers en route to a 5-0 victory.

The trip finished up Sunday in Williston, where they played the Williston High Coyotes. Schenher would score a hat trick, with Emma Holzer chipping in two goals, and a goal each from Payton Roth and Seghers as they went on to win 8-2 to remain perfect on the trip.
