As the holidays are here, SGI is stressing the importance of getting home safely as part of their December Safety Spotlight.
They recommend a number of different methods to get home after a night of partying during these holidays.
Michaela Solomon, a spokesperson with SGI, talks about how people can make sure they're safe over the holidays.
"The holiday season is definitely in full swing. Now we're seeing things like office holiday parties, family gatherings, you know, friends and family from out of town, travelling in for the season. So with that comes definitely more of an opportunity for impairing substances, you know, with parties and gatherings those things tend to come with that, so just ensuring that everyone knows what the options they have to get home safe."
There are a number of methods to make sure you get home safely as told by Solomon.
"We like to say, you know, in the spirit of the holiday season, SGI has made a list and checked it twice. So designate a sober driver or volunteer to be one, call a sober friend or family member to come get you at the end of the night, take the bus, notably for free in certain centres on New Year's Eve, catch a cab, use a designated driving service or another ride share, or spend a night at a friends or family members place if you can."
Solomon also advises people to check if there are seasonal programs available in their area, such as Operation Red Nose which can get them home safely.
