The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are off to Assiniboia for the rest of December. The team is making the move as a result of the temporary closure of Crescent Point Place due to ice plant issues.
The next four home games for the Red Wings will be played in Assiniboia. This includes two games against the Kindersley Klippers, scheduled for this weekend, as well as home games against Humboldt and Yorkton. All four games will be broadcast on Great Plains Ford Red Wing Radio, Country 106.7.
The move will also see the players staying in Assiniboia for the next 10 days. In a post on Facebook yesterday, Southland Co-op put out a call for billets for the Red Wings so they could stay in the community.
Information has yet to be finalized in terms of season tickets and admission.
There is a precedent for an SJHL team to temporarily relocate to a new arena.
In 2010, the Kindersley Klippers were forced to complete their season in Eston after the West Central Events Centre was damaged by a fire that destroyed the adjoining Exhibition Stadium.
