Lacombe's longstanding Farmer and Farmerette's Bonspiel is kicking off today for the 80th year in the community.
The event runs from Jan. 6-11, 2025 at the Lacombe Curling Club and will feature approximately 40 men’s teams and about 12 women’s teams.
Traditionally, the teams would be made up of three farmers and one businessperson from the community to help encourage connections.
“It's a really good opportunity for businesspeople to get out and meet people in the community,” said Graeme Rice, Chairperson of the Lacombe's Farmer's and Farmerettes Bonspiel.
Anyone who enjoys curling is encouraged to register for the event.
“The farming community has shrunk in numbers over the years, so we've been gradually letting anyone who's interested sign up as a team of three or as a single,” Rice said.
Throughout the week, curlers can expect lunches, dinners, and a banquet at the Lacombe Memorial Centre.
All of the funds raised through the event are allocated to the Lacombe Curling Club to support curling programs in the community.
