Twelve of the best women's curling teams in Alberta will be competing for the provincial championship January 22 - 26, 2025 in Rimbey.
Returning champions Team Sturmay will be among those competing. Click here for the draw.
The winning team will advance to the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts next month in Thunder Bay.
"The community's really stepped up to make this a full event for the town and the surrounding area," said Patrick Rurka, president of the Rimbey Curling Club and co-chair of the Alberta Women's Curling Championships. "We've got over 190 volunteers that are going to help make this event an amazing success. Curling Alberta has been excellent to work with in order to make sure that we've got all the facilities and all the tools to make this event turn out terrific."
A volunteer and sponsor appreciation night will take place on Jan. 21 to thank those who have helped out with the event.
On Saturday Jan. 25 from 2:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Team Sturmay will be signing autographs in the Community Center auditorium, after the Junior Hot Shots (on-ice activity).

Rurka notes that Rimbey is the smallest community to ever hold the provincial women's championship.
"Rimbey has not held an event like this for quite some time," he said. "This is the largest event that the Rimbey Curling Club has held."
While the local curling club is hosting the event, the curling will take place at the Vern Poffenroth Memorial Arena inside the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.
"We have to take over the arena for the entire week in order to prep the ice, get everything set," explained Rurka. "Starting on the Friday night before, we have to take over the ice, we have to raise the protective hockey nets for the crowd, and then we start making ice Saturday morning for the event that starts on Wednesday. Rimbey Minor Hockey has been very gracious to give us the opportunity to borrow their ice."
Rurka is hoping the event will help attract new curlers to the sport. The Rimbey Curling Club has been around since about 1920 and now consists of over 120 active members competing in several leagues.
The curling club plans to host an event on Jan. 31 that will allow residents to try out the sport at a low cost.
Rurka notes ticket sales have been going very well for the provincial championship and encourages those interested to pick theirs up sooner than later due to the smaller seating capacity.
