Organizers are looking back on an extremely successful 2025 Curling Alberta Women's Championship which wrapped up over the weekend in Rimbey at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.

Team Skrlik punched her ticket to the Scotties with an exciting 6-5 win over Team Kaufman in Sunday's final.

"I couldn't be more happy and excited about how everything turned out," said event co-chair Patrick Rurka, who is also the President of the Rimbey Curling Club. "The community came through with flying colours. The volunteers were absolutely exceptional."

Lisa Shukin was the other co-chair for the event.

Rurka says they had over 190 volunteers helping out with the event, with over 70 of those from the Rimbey Curling Club. Over 90 businesses and community sponsors also came on board to support the event.

He added attendance was strong throughout, noting there wasn't an empty seat for Sunday's final. Organizers had budgeted to earn about $10,000 in ticket sales, however, the actual number was closer to $40,000.

"Seven months, one of the shortest runways that anyone's had to pull off one of these championships. Everybody locked arms and moved together and it absolutely hit all of our expectations," added Rurka.

He says one of the highlights was receiving news that the Sandra Schmirler Foundation has agreed to make a donation to the Rimbey Hospital Legacy Committee to purchase a new portable ultrasound machine for the Rimbey Hospital.  He says they were able to raise over $3,500 for the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.

A fishing trip raffle also raised just under $40,000 towards the bottom line.

All proceeds will be split evenly between the Rimbey Lions, the Town of Rimbey, and the Rimbey Curling Cub.

To capitalize on the local interest in curling, the Rimbey Curling Club will be hosting free drop-in curling on Fridays from Jan. 31 to Feb. 21 starting at 7 p.m. All ages are welcome and all you need is a clean pair of shoes.

The next event for the club is the Senior's Bonspiel taking place Feb. 3 - 7.
