RCMP officers are investigating a fatal incident after a report of sudden deaths at the Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation.
On February 4, at around 11:15 a.m., File Hills First Nations Police Service received a report of sudden deaths at a residence. Upon responding officers located four deceased persons in the residence.
As the investigation is ongoing, the RCMP said that they are unable to provide further details about the deceased persons at this time but will do so once they are able to. They also confirmed that next of kin notifications are complete.
The initial investigation by the File Hills First Nations Police Service determined their deaths were suspicious in nature. Afterwards, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes was tapped to carry on the investigation.
Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation will see a continued increased police presence.
A possibly related incident was called in later in the day around 3:15 p.m., with Saskatchewan RCMP receiving multiple reports of an adult male pointing a gun at individuals on Zagime Anishinabek, further East of Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation.
RCMP currently do not know if this incident is related to the sudden deaths in Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation, with an update being provided on the investigation as soon as possible.
Investigators believe the suspect in the gun-pointing incidents to be Keagan Panipekeesick, who was arrested by the Regina Police Service early this morning.
The RCMP says they will have more updates forthcoming later this morning.
