The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation has a new executive director. Angela Banda, the former Associate Executive Director – Labour Relations with the STF, replaced current Executive Director Bobbi Taillefer effective February 3.
STF President Samantha Becotte provided the following statement in a news release.
"The Executive has the utmost confidence in Angela’s ability to take on this new role and lead the STF through its future opportunities and challenges. Her experience, education and leadership abilities will ensure the STF continues to evolve to meet members’ needs and remain a top employer,” stated Becotte. “Angela embodies the values of the STF and has demonstrated a deep commitment to teachers, public education and the future of the teaching profession. Her experience in labour relations, as a classroom teacher and a principal ensure she is able to understand, represent and address teachers’ needs."
In addition to her most recent role, Banda has been part of the STF’s senior administrative staff since 2017. Banda's background also includes time as a teacher, a principal, and instructional consultant.
"I look forward to continuing to work with the STF Executive and the Federation’s more than 13,500 members to advocate for teachers and public education,” Banda said. “We will continue to reach out to education stakeholders including the Ministry of Education and Saskatchewan School Boards Association to strengthen relationships. We believe in the value and necessity of working collaboratively to address issues that are important to teachers, students and families."
Taillefer, in the position of Executive Director since 2021, is leaving the post after a 38-year career that included time as a "dedicated educator and passionate advocate for teachers and their work." Now it will be up to Banda to lead the day-to-day operations, heading a team featuring both admin and support workers that help carry out all of the different services the STF has to offer.
