The 2025 Swift Current Music Festival is taking place this week from April 6th through to the 10th at Zion Mennonite Church.

The annual festival brings the southwest together through music featuring performances from vocalists, pianists. cellists and more.

Sophie Regier is no stranger to competing at the festival and provides details on her entries this year.

"So, I am entered in a bunch of musical theatre, I think I am doing five solos and then one duo and then I am also doing voice, I did piano, and I will do a leader as well which is a German art song."

Of all of the categories entered. Regier says Musical Theatre is her favorite as she likes acting, singing and dancing at the same time as she gets in to character and it helps her focus.

Adjudicators at this year's festival include Laurel Teichroeb, Sherry Sproule and Nora Wilson.

Regier has competed in the festival for a number of years and explains why she thinks having this event here is important.

"I think it's important to build the community and build the younger people to keep music in the community."

Today and tomorrow will see performances by a number of local public-school bands and more details about the festival along with the program can be found here.

Everyone is welcome to attend the festival and admission is by donation.
