A former CFL offensive lineman is a part of a team bringing a skill development football camp to Swift Current next month.

The Saskatoon Selects hold a Rural Skills Camp here June 21 and 22.

"We want the players to come out and have some fun and learn some new skills," said CFL alumnus Matt Sheridan. "We also want to try and cater to the coaches for the programs and the teams in the area. Specifically the younger coaches who are just getting into it or feel like they have some things they want to learn."

They're hoping by training coaches it will have an impact on even more players than those who can attend the camp.

"The first hour of the camp, we'll be doing a coaches' presentation where we detail some of the things that have been requested in terms of making coaches better," Sheridan said. "Then we're going to transfer it onto the field in order to implement those concepts."

The Selects are doing similar camps in nine locations across the province.
