Airdrie didn’t wait for fireworks to bring the heat this Canada Day. Families packed City Hall for pancakes by sunrise, lined the parade route by mid-morning, and rolled straight into an all-day celebration stretching from downtown to Nose Creek Park.

The annual Canada Day Parade took over Main Street from 10 a.m. to noon, shutting down a key downtown stretch as floats, marching bands and community groups moved through the city core.

Earlier in the morning, the Kin Club of Airdrie served its traditional pancake breakfast outside City Hall, with plates handed out to the first 1,500 guests.

Throughout the day, downtown businesses are running local promotions and activities, supported by a QR-coded interactive map. Airdrie CultureFest — the city’s first official multicultural festival — continues until 6 p.m. at Nose Creek Regional Park, with live performances, food trucks, beer gardens and cultural exhibits representing five continents.

The Airdrie Pro Rodeo wraps its five-day run tonight at the Airdrie Rodeo Grounds, while the City’s 20-minute fireworks finale is scheduled for 10:45 p.m. at Chinook Winds Regional Park. Parking is limited at the site, with additional lots open at W.H. Croxford High School and Rocky View Schools. Designated viewing areas include Windsong School, Coopers Crossing School, Living Springs Church and Daybreak Church.

Neighbouring towns are also marking the holiday with parades, local events and community fireworks.

In Carstairs, Memorial Park is hosting activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., including crafts, games, bike decorating and a noon-hour hot dog lunch. A bike parade starts at 1 p.m., with fireworks set to launch at 10:30 p.m. from the Carstairs Golf Course.

Didsbury’s “Canada Day at the Museum” runs until 4 p.m. across two sites — the Didsbury Museum and Moose Fence Park — with birthday cake served by town councillors, a vendor market, family activities, bounce houses, and prize draws. Free public swimming is available at the Didsbury Aquatic Centre, with fireworks expected at dusk.
