Cochrane councillor Marni Fedeyko has officially launched her campaign for a third term on town council, highlighting accountability, community engagement, and transparency as the cornerstones of her platform.

Together, they form the acronym ACT, something she says she has demonstrated in her first two terms.

Fedeyko says her decision to run again stems from a desire to address issues she has raised during her previous terms.

“Some change needs to occur here in Cochrane in terms of leadership, how we listen to the people, and really what we’re doing for the community overall as elected officials,” she said.

She says fiscal planning, oversight of capital projects, and ensuring residents and businesses are heard remain key priorities.

“I feel we’ve spent a lot more time telling people what we’ve done rather than listening to what they want,” Fedeyko said, citing challenges with past council processes and limited public engagement.

Fedeyko also emphasized the importance of the council maintaining its decision-making role relative to the administration.

“An administration’s job is to bring forward information for council to hear. But the council’s role is to listen to the people who voted them in and challenge things when necessary. We need real conversations in council chambers, not just applause for decisions without debate,” she said.

Her campaign will focus on public engagement through coffee meetings with residents, driveway chats, video calls, and newsletters, providing multiple ways for residents to connect directly with her.

“My campaign is really about connecting with the people. It’s not just about promising ideas; it’s about delivering solutions,” she said.

Fedeyko has also launched a campaign website, vote4marni.ca, where residents can find information on her platform and contact her through email or social media.

She is one of two current councillors, along with two challengers, registered so far for Cochrane’s municipal election, set for October. Fedeyko says managing growth will be one of the town’s biggest challenges in the coming years, and she wants to ensure council is prepared.

“We can’t stop the growth, but we can certainly manage it a heck of a lot better,” she said.

A resident of Cochrane since 2012, Fedeyko says she remains committed to maintaining the town’s character while guiding it through change.

“Cochrane is still a lovely place to call home. It’s why I continue to choose to live here, and it’s why I want to keep working to make it even better,” she said.
