On September 11, around 8:45 a.m., Drayton Valley RCMP received a report regarding a man who threatened to kill a member of the public as well as RCMP members should they get involved.
Drayton Valley RCMP obtained information confirming that the suspect had access to firearms and ensured that the victim was somewhere safe.
Warrants were obtained and Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), as well as Police Dog Services (PDS), were called in to assist.
Prior to the execution of the warrants, the suspect fled the scene.
Attempts to locate the suspect were conducted by Drayton Valley RCMP, Alberta RMCP ERT and PDS.
While the search was ongoing, Wetaskiwin RCMP located a suspicious vehicle, later discovered to be stolen.
Further investigation resulted in identifying and arresting the suspect.
The search of the residence revealed an open gun safe containing four imitation firearms.
As a result of the investigation, Shane Curtis Seely (35), a resident of Drayton Valley, was charged with:
- Uttering threats (x2)
- Uttering threats towards police
- Possession of stolen property over $5000
- Robbery
Seely was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody.
He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Drayton Valley on September 16.

“This just goes to show the resources and the reach that your Alberta RCMP has within the province and how, by being one police force, we can effectively communicate and coordinate, resulting in the arrest of those who would cause harm within our communities.”
