Peacefully, William “Bill” Twist passed away on October 5, 2023, in Portage la Prairie at the age of 84 years.

Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife Katherine Anne (Cote) Twist; children, Brent (Beverly Kinahan) Twist of Winnipeg, Cheryl (Jean-Marc) Nadeau of Regina and Shaun (Loriann) Twist of Portage la Prairie; along with his grandchildren Cody (Tegan) Twist, Lexa (Mathew Devries) Twist, Brayden (Nicole) Twist, Alexandréa Nadeau (Gavin Taylor) and Sarah-Marie Nadeau and great grandchildren Roryann Twist and Riley Twist. He was predeceased by his parents Pryce Llewelyn and Verna Annie (Bouey) Twist, brothers John Twist and Reece Twist and his great grandson Colten Twist.

Bill often spoke fondly of his childhood growing up on the family farm in Frobisher, Saskatchewan. He met his wife and best friend Anne in the local Lampman Co-op store when she thought it would be hilarious to shake the ladder he was working on top of. It was the beginning of a 60-year adventure together. Service to his community was important to Bill. He was an Army Reservist, volunteer firefighter and belonged to numerous service clubs, the Elks, Knights of Columbus, and Lions club. However, Bill’s favourite volunteer time was coaching his 3 children’s hockey and ball teams. Once retired, Bill and Anne moved to Portage la Prairie to be closer to the grandkids. He never missed their sporting events, recitals, or competitions.

A special thank you to Central Plains Cancer Care, Dr. Hunter, Dr. Kinnear, and his team as well as the staff at Portage District General Hospital for their excellent care.

The family will be celebrating Bill’s life privately.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Care 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
