Central Energy U15 Competes in Calgary

Central Energy U15 traveled west to play in the Calgary Industrial Softball Association May Long Invitational tournament. The club went 2-2 in the round robin play, good enough for the second seed in the playoff round.

Game one was a tight battle against Calgary Kaizen, featuring a 2 for 3 and 1 RBI performance from Taryn Toews at the plate. Addison Nikkel and Taylor Wall pitched for the Energy, who eventually fell by a score of 8-7.

Fire Bulletin #9

The Manitoba Wildfire Service, the Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC), Manitoba Emergency Management Organization (EMO) and the Manitoba Fire Service continue to respond to the two active fires in the area around Flin Flon and The Pas, but improvements in the weather and work by crews on the fire mean residents of affected communities will be allowed to return home on Sunday morning.

9 charges laid and weapons seized in Selkirk

A search warrant led to the seizure of weapons, ammunition and drugs in Selkirk last week.

On May 9, as part of an ongoing drug investigation, Selkirk General Investigation Section (GIS) with assistance from the East District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST), executed a search warrant at a residence on Schultz Avenue in Selkirk.

Central Plains RCMP experience uptick in activity this week

The Central Plains RCMP has released the weekly report for the period between May 6 and May 12. The report covers Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities.

On May 6, at around 9:40 a.m., Portage RCMP received a report that there was a person at a business near Portage la Prairie making threats to staff. Officers located the suspect and placed him under arrest without incident. The 22-year-old man from Portage faces charges of Uttering Threats. He was released on conditions to appear in court at a later date.

Selkirk RCMP arrest four in robbery

On May 11, at around 10:00 p.m., Selkirk RCMP received a call for a robbery at a retail store on Manitoba Avenue. It was reported that a Loss Prevention Officer had been threatened with a knife before the suspects fled in a black SUV, leaving carts full of merchandise behind.

Officers arrived and located the black SUV at the intersection of Manitoba Avenue and Highway 9. A traffic stop was initiated.

The Central Plains RCMP has released the weekly report for the period between April 29 and May 5. The report covers Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities.


At around 8:00 a.m. on May 1, Portage RCMP received a report of a vehicle travelling in the Poplar Point area that did not have any license plates. An officer located the suspect vehicle stuck in the mud near the Assiniboine River on Highway 430. 

PHOTOS: Selkirk RCMP seize large quantity of contraband cigarettes in a business

On April 24, as a result of an ongoing investigation into the illegal sale of unregulated tobacco and cannabis within the City of Selkirk, officers with the Selkirk RCMP General Investigative Section (GIS) and Manitoba Finance Special Investigations Unit, executed a search warrant at a business located in the 400 block of Main Street in Selkirk.

As a result of the search, officers seized over 42,000 illegal cigarettes, a small quantity of cannabis, and over $18,000 in cash.

Portage RCMP seek information on a suspicious vehicle  

Portage la Prairie RCMP are asking for the public's assistance in a case on Sunday involving a suspicious vehicle.

At 1:30 a.m. on May 5, a Portage RCMP officer, while on patrol, spotted a vehicle travelling on Tupper Street North without headlights. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop. However, the driver chose to evade, speeding off at a high rate.
