Central Plains RCMP weekly report shows slight decrease in activity
The Central Plains RCMP has released the weekly report for the period between April 15 and April 21. The report covers Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities.
On April 21, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of breaking and entering at a building on Campbell Avenue in High Bluff.
Several items, including a chainsaw and other tools were taken in this event.
Sandy Bay man gives RCMP fake name during traffic stop
A man from Sandy Bay First Nation attempted to deceive an officer with a phony name last week.
On April 19, at around 2:00 p.m., Amaranth RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 50 in Amaranth.
The 25-year-old man from Sandy Bay First Nation provided the officer with a false name when asked.
The official was able to determine his correct name, and learned he was prohibited from driving a motor vehicle.
Portage officers seize cash, crack cocaine and illicit cannabis
A 39-year-old man has been charged after police found an estimated street value of $65,000.00 worth of drugs at a residence in Portage la Prairie.
On April 19, as part of an ongoing investigation, RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on 9th Street NW in Portage.
Officers say they seized 647 grams of suspected crack cocaine, illicit cannabis and more than $7,500 in Canadian currency.
Frank Tecza, 39, has been charged with Trafficking, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. He was remanded into custody.
Incident at Selkirk daycare results in arrest and charges
On Monday, April 22, at around 11:30 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of an indecent act at a daycare on Morris Avenue in Selkirk.
It was reported a man exposed himself in front of children and staff and then left on foot. An employee immediately contacted police and provided a description.
RCMP arrived and began making patrols in the area but did not locate the suspect.
A second call was received at around 1:45 p.m. advising that the suspect had returned to the area. Officers attended and he was arrested without incident.
Ten ACC graduates new frontline officers for Manitoba First Nations Police Force
The Manitoba Public Safety Institute at Assiniboine College, in partnership with the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS), celebrated 10 new First Nations Police Officers at their graduation event on Friday in Southport. - Media Release April 19th
These graduates are part of the first intake of police (post hired) training recruit students in the Assiniboine partnership with MFNPS, with the new program representing another significant milestone in the growth of Public Safety Training at Assiniboine.
20-year-old Lake St. Martin shooter faces multiple charges
On April 18, at about 8:05 p.m., Gypsumville RCMP responded to a shooting at a business in Lake St. Martin First Nation.
Immediately officers and Emergency Medical Services responded and located an injured 34-year-old man. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP identified a suspect and he was arrested.

RCMP looking for suspect involved in arson incident near Oak Bluff
Stonewall RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man involved in a break-and-enter and damage to property.
Police say the suspect was captured on video surveillance on the morning of April 10 at an address on La Salle Road in Oak Bluff. The suspect broke windows on a barn and damaged a vehicle parked on the property.
He was then caught again on camera, on another property nearby, appearing to enter a residence. The same suspect is believed to have entered this residence back in January, where he set fire to the kitchen.
Bear Spray in Portage, RCMP Constable weighs in
The Portage la Prairie area has been seeing an uptick in reports regarding assailants releasing bear spray, both in public or directly on another person.
A common misconception relating to bear spray is that it is interchangeable with pepper spray. In reality, bear spray is much stronger , with a longer reaching mist, and a greater concentration of capsaicin(chili pepper extract).
Constable Larry Neufeld, the Community Media Liaison Officer for the Portage RCMP, weighed in on the issue.
Assault and firearm complaint leads to Ebb and Flow arrest
A 38-year-old man at a residence in Ebb and Flow First Nation has been arrested following a report of an assault.
At 3:33 a.m., on April 13, Ste. Rose-du-Lac RCMP were dispatched to Ebb and Flow First Nation - Gaa-gwekwekojiwang.
Police say that upon arrival, they heard gunshots coming from behind the residence and were notified that a man, who was possibly intoxicated by drugs, had just fled with a rifle.
UPDATE: RCMP make arrest in major electronics theft
UPDATE: The RCMP has confirmed that the crimes committed by the suspects in Dauphin are connected to the recent theft of $70,000 worth of iPhones from a store in Portage la Prairie.
