IIU begins investigation into death of 27-year-old Sandy Bay man
The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba is examining an altercation between police and a 27-year-old man ended fatally over the weekend.
On Saturday, April 20, at around 5:00 p.m., Amaranth RCMP responded to a call for assistance from Manitoba First Nation Police Service (MFNPS) and the police of jurisdiction in Sandy Bay First Nation for an ongoing incident in the community.
The call was for a disturbance involving a weapon at a residence.
When RCMP and MFNPS arrived on the scene, the suspect had fled. RCMP and MFNPS officers tracked the suspect.
Portage RCMP make arrest following disturbance with edged weapon
Portage la Prairie RCMP recently responded to a man threatening citizens on a walking path.
At 3:23 p.m. on April 9, Officers were called to a disturbance on the trail along Fisher Avenue in Portage.
Police learned that a man had threatened to stab another person. Officials were given a detailed description of the suspect.
They then located the suspect a short distance away and placed the 18-year-old man from Portage la Prairie under arrest without incident.
Portage RCMP Officers respond to a busy week
The Central Plains RCMP has released the weekly report for the period between April 8 and April 14. The report covers Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities.
At around 2:10 a.m. on April 14, two Portage RCMP officers were attending to an incident in the 100 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West, when they were approached by a person indicating that a womam was trying to fight with other people in the same area.

Shoughn Rheagon Perswain was reported to be missing on April 14, from his home on Long Plain First Nation. MFNPS is asking for the public's assistance as they are concerned about Perswain's well-being.
Collision closes portion of eastbound lane on Highway 1
Authorities were on the scene of a collision right beside the former Cobalt Industries building on Highway 1 Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses say the accident occurred when a Semi rear-ended a pickup truck hauling a trailer. The Portage Fire Department, along with the RCMP and EMS, did attend to the scene.
The collision temporarily closed the left lane of the highway.
No further information was reported from officials.

$70,000 iPhone theft has Portage RCMP asking for public's assistance
On March 10, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a theft that had occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., the night before, at a business on Sissons Drive.
It was reported that three adults, two men and a woman, entered the business and went to the electronics area.
The woman distracted the employee, and the two men broke into the locked cabinet and stole approximately 60 Apple iPhones. The entire incident occurred within minutes. The theft was not discovered until the following morning.
UPDATE: Hazing goes too far, Manitoba RCMP arrest youth hockey players
Three 17-year-old youths have been arrested in relation to hazing incidents on a Manitoba hockey team.
The arrests were made Tuesday, April 15, while these incidents were reported to police on February 20. Two of the teens were arrested for Sexual Assault with a Weapon, Sexual Assault, and Forcible Confinement. The other was arrested for Sexual Assault and Assault.
