Federal employees required to get COVID-19 vaccine

COVID-19 vaccinations will soon be required by all federal employees. On August 13, 2021, the Government of Canada announced the intent to require vaccination across federal employees by the end of September. 

“As the country’s largest employer, the Government of Canada is committed to playing a leadership role by further protecting the health and safety of public servants and the communities where they live and work across Canada and around the world,” it read in the statement. 

Ontario announces a COVID-19 vaccination policy for high-risk settings

To assist in the fight against the increase of the Delta variant spreading throughout the province, the Ontario government has announced a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy in high-risk settings.

Included in the announcement is that the government has hit the pause button on the exit of Step Three of the provinces Roadmap to Reopen plan and third doses will also be administered to the vulnerable population.

August 17: Four new positive COVID-19 cases confirmed, one case considered resolved

The Northwestern Health Unit has confirmed four new positive COVID-19 test results across the region. 

The newly discovered cases have been confirmed in the Kenora Health Region. The NWHU has reported that following their investigation one of the new cases is being considered resolved. 

Currently, there are seven actives cases in the NWHU catchment area. Six cases in the Kenora Health Region and one case in the Rainy River Health Region.

Liberal candidate David Bruno gearing up for the federal election

Liberal candidate David Bruno is gearing up for his federal election campaign, as the announcement of the countries next general election was made on Sunday.

Bruno did agree with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's decision to call an election even though the country is experiencing a possible fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie exceed 300; fully vaccinated stats at 41.6 percent

Alberta Health Services' latest COVID-19 data shows 5,354 active cases as of August 15, 2021. 

There are a total of 161 Albertans in the hospital due to COVID-19, 43 of those in the ICU.

Local active COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie are currently at 317, while the County of Grande Prairie has 86.

Alberta records 1,407 new COVID-19 cases over three days

The three-day tally from Friday to Sunday for new COVID-19 cases comes to 1,407.

There were 392 cases on Friday, August 13.

Saturday, August 14 saw 451 cases.

Sunday, August 15 added another 564 new cases.

There are now 5,354 active cases in the province.

There are 161 people in the hospital an increase of nine since Friday. ICU admissions increased by six since Friday to 43.

Sadly, another death has been reported bringing the total in the province to 2,333.

102 new COVID cases in Manitoba since Thursday

There are 591 active cases of COVID-19 in the province as of Monday. 

Another three Manitobans have died with COVID-19. Today's death toll includes:

  • a female in her 60s from the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • a female in her 60s from the Winnipeg health region; and
  • a male in his 60s from the Interlake–Eastern health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 (alpha) variant of concern.

As of Monday, 80.9 per cent of Manitobans have received one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 74.3 per cent have received two doses.

August 16: One new COVID-19 case found, but considered resolved

The Northwestern Health Unit has confirmed one new positive COVID-19 test result in the region, since their last update on Friday.

The NWHU does confirm that the new case was found in the Rainy River Health Region, but based on their investigation the case is now considered resolved. 

Currently, there are four active cases in the NWHU catchment area. Three actives cases in the Kenora Health Region and one active case in the Rainy River Health Region. It has been confirmed that one active case from each health region is isolating out of the area.

Five NWO regional airports receive a contribution from the federal government

Five regional airports across Northwestern Ontario will be receiving a boost to assist with the movement of goods and connect Canadians across the country.

The Sioux Lookout Airport, Dryden Regional Airport, Red Lake Airport, Kenora Airport Authority, and Fort Frances Airport will be sharing $4.14 million from a federal government contribution. 

COVID-19 case count at 267 in Grande Prairie; fully vaccinated stats at 41.2 percent

Alberta Health Services' latest COVID-19 data shows 4,438 active cases as of August 12, 2021. 

There are a total of 152 Albertans in the hospital due to COVID-19, 37 of those in the ICU.

Local active COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie are currently at 267, while the County of Grande Prairie has 63.
