Province announcing 2 deaths, 181 new COVID cases from weekend

The province is sharing COVID-19 data from the past three days.

New cases

Over the course of three days, between Friday to Monday morning, there were 181 new cases. The total number of COVID-19 cases is 56,920. Of the total cases, 1,025 are active cases, 54,733 are recoveries, and 1,025 have died. As of Monday, a woman in her 40s from the Winnipeg health region and a male in his 70s from the Interlake-Eastern Regional health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 (alpha) variant of concern has died.

Decade-long paramedic relationship making impact in unsheltered pandemic response

A project put in place more than a decade ago has had a major impact on the health and safety of people experiencing loss of shelter during the pandemic.

Nestled inside of Main Street Project is a City of Winnipeg paramedic. Dustin Vogt, who is one of these (EPIC) paramedics has been part of this specific program off and on for the past four years and has noticed its major impacts on the unsheltered community.

Kids don't want to do the summer slide when it comes to reading

Summer slide may sound like fun but when it comes to reading it is something you do not want your kids to play with.

Head Librarian / Assistant Director of the Cochrane Public Library, Andrea Johnston explains, “What the summer slide is when kids don’t read they actually lose a grade level of reading comprehension skills and that effects of course math and day to day and that’s why we want to help encourage kids as much as possible to keep reading and win some very cool prizes.”

Another day with no new COVID-19 deaths reported

The COVID-19 numbers for Friday, July 9 saw 52 new COVID-19 cases with and the positivity rate remaining below one per cent.

There are seven fewer people in the hospital with a total of 126 however, there are three more people in ICU for a total of 35.

There were no additional deaths reported with the total in the province remaining at 2,307.

Cochrane added another case for a total of eight active cases and Rocky View County has dropped to five cases. 

Manitoba vaccination card demand backing up supply

Those wanting a COVID-19 immunization card will need to wait longer than expected after a boom in demand.

The physical cards Manitobans can request as proof for being fully immunized against COVID-19 are in short supply. The Province of Manitoba's COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force says there is an enormous demand for these cards, creating delays in their system.
