Dr. Roussin Asked When Vaccine Mandates Will Be Lifted

Manitoba's top doctor says vaccine uptake will have to be higher before our province begins lifting mandates such as proof of vaccination.

Public health officials announced 162 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Of those, 57 are in the Southern Health region.

Acording data from Manitoba Public Health, 84.4 per cent of eligible Manitobans are now fully vaccinated. Within Southern Health, it is 68.8 per cent.

Manitoba's Health Minister says Manitoba is planning for the COVID-19 vaccine to be approved for young children as Health Canada's clinical review is nearing its end.

Premier Heather Stefanson, Health and Seniors Care Minister Audrey Gordon, and Dr. Joss Reimer, the medical lead of the Vaccine Implementation Task Force are announcing that they are preparing for Pfizer's 10-microgram COVID-19 vaccine to be approved for young children. Reimer is anticipating the vaccine for youth aged five to 11 to be approved.

Manitoba sees 162 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday

Manitoba's total COVID-19 case count has reached over 66,000.

As of Wednesday morning, there are 162 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 66,009.

Out of the new cases, 94 people were not vaccinated, five were partially vaccinated, and 63 are fully vaccinated.

New cases by health region include:

  • 57 in Southern
  • 46 in Winnipeg
  • 27 in Prairie Mountain
  • 16 in Northern
  • 16 in Interlake-Eastern

 

Manitoba's five-day test rate is 5.7 per cent. There are 1,452 active cases.

November 17: COVID-19 update

One new COVID-19 case has been reported by the Northwestern Health Unit. 

The new case was found in the Dryden/Red Lake Health Region. 

Follow up with the person involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for this case will be contacted directly.

Currently, there is only one active case connected to the NWHU catchment area. 

In Ontario, 512 new COVID-19 cases were discovered in the province on Wednesday. 

2 COVID-19 walk-in clinics in region Wednesday, vaccine numbers continue to increase

The Northwestern Health Unit will be hosting two COVID-19 vaccine walk-in clinics in the region today (November 17, 2021).

The clinics will be in Kenora, and Fort Frances. Kenora residents can find their clinic at the Super 8 Motel (240 Lakeview Dr) from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The walk-in clinic in Fort Frances will be at the St. Micheal’s School (820 Fifth St E) from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Hinshaw Cautions of Incoming Flu Season Amid COVID Decline

Alberta's COVID plateau continues.

In her latest provincial update, Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported 321 new cases after 6,425 tests.

That puts Alberta's positivity rate at 5.1 per cent.

One less Albertan is being treated in hospital, leaving the total at 518, with 101 patients in intensive care.

With 13 additional deaths, the total has risen to 3,201.

During the update, Dr. Hinshaw stressed that while numbers are declining, flu season is just around the corner.

November 16: COVID-19 update

The Northwestern Health Unit has reported zero new COVID-19 cases have been found since their last update. 

Currently, there are two active cases connected to the NWHU catchment area. 

Today Ontario reported 481 new COVID-19 cases. Among those cases, 236 were not vaccinated, 18 are partially vaccinated, and 38 cases were in individuals whose vaccine status was unknown.
