Best of the Best: Crocus Men's Open this weekend

One of the premier golf events hosting the greatest golfers in Saskatchewan will take place in Weyburn this upcoming weekend, The Crocus Men's Open. Last year, nearly 70 golfers converged at the Weyburn Golf Club for the provincially sanctioned event in co-ordination with the Order of Merit tournament. Krystle Fedoretz, general manager at the Weyburn Golf Club, comments on one of the golf club’s biggest tournaments of the year.

A summer solstice is described as when one of the Earth’s poles (North Pole or South Pole) has its maximum tilt towards the Sun. This day contains the most amount of sunlight and signals the first day of Summer. This year’s Summer Solstice is on Friday June 20th, but an even bigger event shines bright the next day; the Yellow Grass Summer Solstice. 

Set hut!: Registration now open for Weyburn Minor Football

The bright lights, the meticulously maintained grassy green field with perfect white marking lines, the crack of pads and the cheer from fans; it’s hard not to enjoy football. With the excitement of the CFL regular season almost underway, children might look up to these players and feel inspired to join the sport themselves. Well thankfully, Weyburn Minor Football have opened registration for the 2025 season. Tiarra Schneider, program administrator with Weyburn Minor Football, says the excitement for the upcoming season is growing.  

A good sweat: Move to Make a Difference returns this weekend in Weyburn

Most fundraisers look fairly similar nowadays. No matter how you raise the money, if it’s for a good cause, people can always rally behind it. Although from 50/50’s to raffles and giveaways, it can seem kind of repetitive or for lack of a better word, ‘boring’.  

The Athletic Club noticed this as well and launched a new type of fundraiser called Move to Make a Difference. Combining the feel-good feeling of a fundraiser with the feel-good feeling of a great workout; they’re hoping they can raise funds for a good cause and raise your heartrate while they're at it.  

80's Metal: Cars wanted for demo derby at Weyburn Fair Days

The 116th annual Weyburn Fair Days are only a month away as the Weyburn Agricultural Society gets ready for a week of fun over at the Weyburn Exhibition Grounds. One of the many fan-favourite events that are taking place that week is their Rumble in the Ring. On Thursday, July 3rd, engines will roar as there’s everything from quad pulls, lawnmower races, and their demolition derby. 

ICYMI: Weyburn Red Wings Pickleball tournament tomorrow

With warm weather and sunshine in Weyburn and the ice out of Crescent Point Place, not too much goes on for the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings. They’re looking to change that and keep the spirit of sport going with their first ever Pickleball tournament happening tomorrow.  

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports around, thanks to its accessibility for all ages and minimal equipment requirements. Ryder Burns, sales and marketing director for the Red Wings, comments on the reasoning behind the brand-new tournament. 

Brokenshell Multiple 4-H Club hosting puzzle challenge for poultry project

As the month of June fast approaches and the sun keeps shining, many more events pop up throughout southeast Saskatchewan for people to enjoy and take part in. However, if you’re looking for an event away from the sun, the Brokenshell Multiple 4-H Club is hosting a Puzzle Challenge raising funds for their poultry project. Roxy Kravanya with the 4-H Club explains the challenge. 

Blast from the Past: first-ever Khedive Car & Tractor Show this Sunday

Roughly 50 kilometers west of Weyburn along Highway 13 and just before Highway 6 is the small town of Khedive. In the middle of Khedive stands a massive, beautiful brick building which was once the Khedive Public School. However, since the school's closure back in 1976, it has stood mainly dormant.
