2025 Red Wings Exit Interview: Jerome Maharaj
Jerome Maharaj joined the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings during the 2023-2024 season after coming over from the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the AJHL. He would briefly leave the Red Wings to start the 2024-2025 season for 3 games with the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL before rejoining the Red Wings and establishing himself as an elite level playmaker in the SJHL and a leader, being named Assistant Captain during his final year. I joined with him to talk about his time as a Red Wing, moving around in junior hockey, and his future in hockey.

Liam Fitzgerald played two seasons with the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings, joining back in the 2023-2024 season after playing with the Revelstoke Grizzlies and the Fernie Ghostriders of the KIJHL. A playoff performer, scoring three goals in seven games of last year and six in the 17 games this year which led all Red Wings in postseason goals. Jaxson Ruthven joined the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings back in the 2023-2024 season from playing in the AJHL with the Sherwood Park Crusaders and the Grande Prairie Storm wasting no time establishing himself as a premier goal scorer in the SJHL, averaging nearly a point per game over his last two seasons. The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings wrapped up their 2024-2025 season with Awards Night over the weekend. Giving thanks to those involved and rewarding the players who made an impact on the season. As well, they honoured the eight graduating players who are aging out of junior hockey. Training and Trophies: Red Wings get ready for a busy weekend
Although the 2024-2025 season is over on the ice for the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings, they’re still keeping busy with a full weekend ahead. Starting this evening, the Red Wings are beginning their Spring Camp.
The spring camp allows younger players a chance to hone their skills and showcase their abilities. The camp will continue throughout the weekend until their Red vs White intersquad game on Sunday afternoon.
ICYMI: Southeast College's 50th anniversary career fair today
Southeast College is celebrating a half-century of education and the furtherment of careers with their 50th anniversary career fair and open house at their Weyburn campus on April 30th. From 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. they’ll be linking up with potential employers, showcasing the college, and celebrating 50 years of knowledge and advancement. Jaycee Mantei, coordinator of student recruitment and engagement, talks about the help that an event like this can have in the community.
Goodwater Community Hall with a delicious fundraiser
To help support the Goodwater Community Hall and their kitchen renovation, they’re hosting their 4th annual BBQ Brisket Take Out meal fundraiser. Until May 2nd, you can order a full brisket meal with all the fixings for just $30 a plate. Dakota Holliday, organizer of the fundraiser, talks about the great food and the reasoning for the fundraising.
Mainprize Regional Park set to open golf course May 1st
With springtime settling into southeast Saskatchewan, people are getting ready to book summer plans including camping and golfing; getting outside, and enjoying all that nature has to offer. Over at Mainprize Regional Park, they’re getting ready to help accommodate those plans as they’ve announced they’ll be opening their golf course on May 1st and opening the gates for the first day of fishing on May 5th, weather permitting. Michelle Walsh, general manager of Mainprize, is excited to start the 2025 year.
Red Wings pushed to the brink losing Game 4 of the SJHL finals
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are in a must-win situation now as they’ve dropped Game 4 of the Canterra Seeds Cup Finals against the Melfort Mustangs 5-1. The Melfort Mustangs go up 3-1 in the best-of-seven series and look to clinch their second straight SJHL championship on home ice Sunday night. Casey O’Brien, assistant coach for the Red Wings, comments on the loss.
