17-year-old girl arrested after biting police officer

A 17-year-old girl is in custody after assaulting a Winnipeg police officer.

Winnipeg police were patrolling the 700 block of Pacific Avenue Saturday evening on an unrelated matter, when they located a 17-year-old girl who was wanted on several arrest warrants. She was intoxicated and transported to hospital for medical assessment.

'They are brave people': Update on Mennonite Centre in Ukraine

A community organization in Ukraine, in part supported by southeastern Manitobans, is giving its all as war continues to rage in the region.

Chris Goertzen is the vice chair of the Friends of the Mennonite Centre in Ukraine, which provides funds for basic needs at it's namesake: the Mennonite Centre in Ukraine.

There, the centre has been serving impoverished Ukrainians for more than 20 years, he says.

Manitoba bill takes aim at deepfakes, election disinformation, voter misdirection

The Manitoba government put forward a bill Tuesday aimed at cracking down on election disinformation. It proposes several provisions against deliberate attempts to undermine confidence in elections and the use of altered images of candidates and election officials.

"This is keeping up with the times. It's enhancing some of the legislation that we have," Justice Minister Matt Wiebe said.

Canadian pride surges in face of Trump's tariff, sovereignty threats: Leger poll

A new poll suggests Canadians' sense of national pride has surged in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs and threats against the country's sovereignty.

The poll, conducted by Leger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies, says that the number of people saying they're proud to be Canadian has jumped from 80 per cent in November 2024 to 86 per cent this month.

Give the Word offering hope through Bibles designed for cancer patients ▶️

Give the Word ministries has recently partnered with another hospital to deliver Bibles designed to encourage people battling cancer. 

"We got an email from the spiritual director at a hospital in Alberta," says Ryan Rempel, staff member at Give the Word. "She was expressing how they have a lot of patients who are looking for answers in dark times. They have a lot of families looking for hope and encouragement."
