Voters in Provencher will have five candidates to choose from in the upcoming federal election.

Monday was the close of nominations for candidates in the April 28 election. Elections Canada has now updated its list of confirmed candidates for each constituency.

With a snap federal election on the horizon at the end of this month, Janine Gibson stands as the Green Party’s candidate for Portage-Lisgar in the 45th federal election. In a recent Q&A session, Gibson discussed tariffs, agriculture, affordable housing, and more - underscoring the Green Party’s commitment to sustainable progress and responsible policy.

There will be a familiar face on the federal election campaign trail.

William Caton is running for the Liberal Party in Swift Current-Grasslands-Kindersley.

"We're so conservative where I live in the southwest corner," Caton said. "I really don't like (Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre)'s attitude about things or his policies. I just thought it was time to stand up and talk about the things that I thought are important."

The Ponoka Chamber of Commerce has cancelled the Ponoka-Didsbury All-Candidates Forum, due to candidates unable to confirm attendance. 

The candidates for the Ponoka-Didsbury riding, as of April 8, are:

• Grant Abraham, United Party of Canada
• Blaine Calkins, Conservative Party of Canada
• Larry Gratton, People’s Party of Canada
• Logan Hooley, NDP
• Zarnab Zafar, No Affiliation

Election day is April 28, with advance voting taking place April 18 - 21.

Nominations for candidates in the 2025 Federal Election closed yesterday, and five candidates for as many parties have thrown their names in the hat for the Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan riding.

The Liberal and Conservative leaders both started the third week of the federal election campaign in British Columbia — a battleground province with 43 seats up for grabs when Canadians go to the polls.

The Liberals pledged environmental conservation measures and support for seniors, while the Tories offered more efficient approvals for resource projects.

The Foothills riding's list of federal election candidates sits at five with the big day just three weeks away.

Among them is Paul O'Halloran, a founding member of the People's Party of Canada (PPC) who is running under the party's banner in the upcoming election.

O'Halloran has called Alberta home for over 30 years, initially moving to Calgary during his time with the military.

He eventually settled in Black Diamond, now Diamond Valley, which he currently calls home.

Incumbent Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) Blake Richards is running for re-election in the Airdrie-Cochrane riding.

He is hopeful to represent the people of Airdrie and Cochrane once again.

"It's always humbling to put your name on the ballot," Richards said. "I've worked hard for the people of our area, and it's always been an honour to represent our communities and our people within them."

Richards, who has lived in Airdrie for 25 years, said his motivation is giving back.

With just three weeks to go until election day, Canada's federal party leaders are back on the road today.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is expected to make an announcement in Toronto today following weekend campaign stops on the East Coast, where he announced plans to impose national rent control and to get every Canadian access to a family doctor in the next five years.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is wrapping up a campaign sweep on the West Coast today before flying to Edmonton for a rally.

A federal election is coming up in three weeks, April 28th, and the Liberal candidate for Provencher is getting ready.

"It's going to be busy because this is a short campaign and so there's a lot to do, but I'm looking forward to it. I think this is a very important election, so I wanted to be part of it," says Trevor Kirczenow.

There are several big issues that make this such a critical election, he says.
