Colts & Shadows football seasons both end

It was a tough ending to the season for two southwest high school football teams on Saturday.

On the road in Delisle, the Shaunavon Shadows came up just short in the provincial nine-man quarterfinals falling 29-25.

Keagen Richards, Grayson Arendt, Treysen Tetrault, and Kaleb Little scored touchdowns for Shaunavon in a losing cause.

Shaunavon has seven players graduating this year, including all four that scored a touchdown.

Meanwhile, the Swift Current Comp Colts also fell in a close contest in Moose Jaw to the Peacock Tornadoes 14-7.

Kyle searching for mayor candidate

The Town of Kyle has put out a second call for nominations to fill two vacant council positions including the mayoral spot.

Five of the seven chairs for council have been filled with three returning councillors and two new councillors all being elected by acclamation.

Amber Dashney, the CAO for the Town of Kyle, said this round of nominations will be open until October 23 at 4 p.m.

Two injured in rollover by Sask Landing

A single-vehicle rollover on Highway 4 near the Saskatchewan Landing over the Thanksgiving weekend sent two people to hospital.

Kyle RCMP was notified on October 12 at 9:30 p.m. of an SUV that had left the road and crashed north of Sask Landing.

Two occupants were located in the wreck with one taken to hospital by ground ambulance and the other via STARS Air Ambulance, both with serious injuries.

The highway was closed Saturday night for a brief period of time to allow for the emergency response.

RCMP continues to investigate the collision. 

Gas prices projected to continue decreasing in Saskatchewan

Gasoline prices in the province could continue to drop throughout the fall season.

An expert with GasBuddy believes that could fall another $0.05 to $0.15 per litre in the next few months.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis with GasBuddy, said there is a bit of volatility in gas prices currently that could increase or decrease prices in the short term.

Is the west central area experiencing drought again?

According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada drought map published on August 31, much of the region ranges is listed in moderate or severe drought. With a few spots close to the Montana and Alberta borders in the abnormally dry category.

The severe drought spot runs from Swift Current north to the Rosetown area and west to Kindersley. 

Trevor Hadwen, an agriclimate specialist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, said much of the province's moisture levels are adequate.

Province announces new funding and judicial policy aimed at keeping people safe

The Saskatchewan government is announcing new funding which they say will enhance safety in neighbourhoods.

That includes a multi-ministered approach, with funding adding new police officers, training more officers, introducing new enforcement tools, and ensuring social supports are in place and accessible.

The new investments total up to $18.1 million focusing on the following sectors:

Cypress Regional Hospital and DNIF celebrate thulium fibre laser arrival

A new piece of technology has been added to the Cypress Regional Hospital's repertoire courtesy of countless donations from southwest residents and businesses.

Last fall the region came together during the Pharmasave Radiothon for Healthcare raising more than enough funds to enable the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation to purchase a thulium fibre laser system for $161,000.

The cutting-edge equipment recently arrived in Swift Current and is now in service, making the local hospital one of only two in the province with it.
