And the 2022 Classical and Jazz Nominees are....

On May 15th , 2022 the Juno Awards will take place at the Budweiser Outdoor Stage in Toronto. This particular Juno Awards ceremony will be extra exciting, because, it is tentatively scheduled to be an in-person event. This will be the  first live-in-person ceremony in three years, since the beginning of the pandemic.

Classicaland Jazz Nominees, represent artists from  coast to coast to coast, and showcase the wide diversity of the Jazz and Classical scene here in Canda. So without further ado…here are the Jazz and Classical nominees for this year’s Juno celebrations…

Uncovered: Catalyst Quartet record music of African-American composer Florence Price

On February the 4th 2022, the Grammy Award Winning Catalyst String Quartet released the second volume of their “Uncovered” series of recordings.

The “Uncovered” series as recorded by the Catalyst Quartet aims to showcase chamber music of Black composers, who sadly have not had the exposure and recognition that they so rightly deserve. Largely because of the color of their skin, and the biases taught at many Music schools even to this day.

Reaching the Summit: The Clarinet Summit Duo performs as part of the Music 'N' Mavens concert series

This Tuesday, February 22nd at 2:00pm, the Rady JCC’s Music and Mavens Concert and Lecture Series will be offering their first concert of the series. This first concert will present two of Winnipeg’s finest Clarinetists. The Duo “Clarinet Summit” consists of outstanding Orchestral Player, teacher and repairman Naoum Gomom and Myron Schultz who is known for his amazing work with the Winnipeg Klezmer Band Finjan, as well as the group Black Sea Station.

Mozart’s music will be front and centre on the station with full performances of two concertos, one symphony, and a full performance of Mozart’s uplifting Mass in C minor.
