Carman RCMP seeking help in possible case of arson

Carman RCMP is asking for help in identifying suspects in a possible case of arson dating back to October.
    
On October 11, members of the Carman detachment responded to a structure fire on Road 1 West in the RM of Rhineland, where a decommissioned bridge, estimated in value at $4 million was destroyed.     
    
The investigation determined the cause of the fire to be undetermined. 
    

Alert Ready test scheduled for 1:55 p.m. Wednesday afternoon

Alert Ready, the country's national public alerting system, is scheduled to be tested at 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday.

An emergency alert test message will go out on multiple communication channels, including CFAM 950, Country 88.9 and The Eagle 93-5, at 1:55 p.m. The test alert will also be sent out on tv and compatible wireless devices. However, not all Manitobans will receive the test alert on their mobile devices. This may occur for a variety of reasons including device compatibility, connection to an LTE network, cell tower coverage, and device software and settings.

Police end pursuit for safety reasons, issue warrant for driver

Shortly before midnight on November 8th, Winkler Police were notified by the RCMP and Altona Police about an attempted theft of a motor vehicle near Rosenfeld.  

With a vehicle description in hand, officers located the suspect vehicle parked at a motel in Winkler shortly after midnight. Police say the driver of the vehicle is known to officers as being a suspended driver.  

Remembrance Day in the Pembina Valley

Canadians once again paused this November 11th to recognize and honour the contributions of men and women who have paid the ultimate price in service to their country and the world.  

Remembrance Day ceremonies were held in many communities throughout the region.

In Winkler, people gathered at the P.W. Enns Centennial Concert Hall.

Hold and secure issued at W.C. Miller Collegiate Wednesday afternoon

The Border Land School Division (BLSD) confirmed Wednesday afternoon that a Hold and Secure order was issued earlier in the day at W.C. Miller Collegiate in Altona.

In a letter to school families outlining the ordeal, BLSD explained the Hold and Secure was issued at 1:15 p.m. as officials waited for local police to arrive at the high school and assist with an agitated person outside of the building.

With a Colorado low knocking on the door, as of right now, we should be spared the worst of it

With the first major winter storm of the season knocking on the door of the Red River Valley and Southeastern Manitoba, at this point, it looks like our side of the border will be spared the most impactful weather from this system. Ahead of the Colorado low's expected arrival during the early morning hours of Thursday, the U.S. National Weather Service has issued Blizzard Warnings and Winter Storm Warnings for much of North Dakota, right up to the Canadian border.

Snowfall Warnings are now in effect for all of Southeastern Manitoba.

AMM looking to fill director vacancies

Civic elections have taken place and for various reasons the Association of Manitoba Municipalities needs to find a number of directors to sit around the board table.

President Kam Blight says it's nothing new to have vacancies following elections which take place every four years. "This year we have eight vacant positions. Two in the Northern region and one in each other district which is Parkland, Midwestern, Central, Western, Eastern and Interlake."

Winkler police to lay charges in multi-family dispute

Six people are facing a myriad of charges after an incident unfolded between members of two families Friday evening in Winkler.
    
Officers from Winkler and Morden police services responded to the scene near Mountain Avenue and 8th Street, after witnesses reported multiple people attacking each other with various weapons, and that one person appeared to be attempting to drive over somebody with a vehicle.
