This week’s Spike & Friends Pet Services Inc. Adorable Adoptables from the Moose Jaw Humane Society(MJHS) are Eniee, Miney, and Moe!

These cute little kittens would make a wonderful addition to any family. Eenie is black and white and the other two are tabby with the cutest facial patterns.

There used to be a Menie, however they were recently adopted as the quadfecta of adoptions looks to be completed. They each have an adoption fee of $50.

You may want to pack a sweater. Although there are no major storms bearing down on the province over the long weekend, it appears that Saskatchewanians are in for a rather cool May Long Weekend. 

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist, Steven Berg, things are going temperatures are going to be cool and relatively dry—save for a low chance for scattered showers—for the next several days.  

Wildfires and fire bans in northern Saskatchewan — along with smoke from those fires — could put a damper on the May long weekend. 

According to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), there are currently 11 wildfires burning. Five are not under control and one remains under investigation. That number is down from 24 wildfires a week ago, though three new fires were reported overnight as of Thursday morning. 

Since 1987, Irv Drefs and Marlis Duff have been saving pieces of Moose Jaw’s history that every person born and raised here can appreciate, with Peacock teacher Carrie Kiefer joining the effort in 2000 — together, they have created a hidden gem in the Museum of Schools Room at Albert E. Peacock Collegiate. 

National Nurses Week in Canada is May 12 - 18. It is a time to recognize and show appreciation for nurses who make up a large percentage of hospital staff.

According to the Government of Canada, there are approximately 1,060 registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses in the Swift Current - Moose Jaw region.

UPDATE:

The Saskatchewan RCMP cancelled their dangerous person alert after arresting 24-year-old Michael Bouvier near Loon Lake, Saskatchewan this afternoon.

RCMP also located a woman who was reported to have been with Bouvier against her will.

Police reported she is safe and being assessed by EMS.

VERNON HARVEY REABURN

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Vernon (Vern) Harvey Reaburn on Monday, May 12th, 2025.  Vern was a proud and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend.

The sexual assault case of five hockey players faced another major upheaval Friday, abruptly converting from a jury to a judge alone in order to avoid a mistrial that would have rebooted the proceedings for a second time in less than a month.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Maria Carroccia ruled to discharge the jury Friday over concerns about possible jury bias. The move came after a juror sent a note to the Carroccia indicating some members of the panel felt two of the defence lawyers were laughing at them as they came into court each day.

The Winnipeg Jets will live to skate another day. Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves to help Winnipeg avoid elimination with a 4-0 win over the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of their second-round series. The Stars now lead the series 3-2 with Game 6 set for Saturday in Dallas.

Meanwhile, a goal with just under two minutes left helped the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Washington Capitals 3-1 and book their ticket to the Eastern Conference Final. Carolina will play the winner of the second-round series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. Florida leads 3-2.
