Bail hearing pushed back for man accused of sexual offences against minors

The bailing hearing for a 39-year-old facing firearms charges and sexual offences against minors has been pushed back. 

A publication ban is in place under section 486.4 of the criminal code for any information was could identify the victim(s). At this point, the man’s relationship with the victim(s) is unknown so his name will not be published at this time. 

Acting police chief raises concerns about arson and aggravated assaults

Acting police chief Rick Johns raised concerns about the number of arsons and aggravated assaults in the city as the June 2025 statistical report was presented to the Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners this week. 

Aggravated assaults rose to four year-to-date, compared to none during the same period last year and three in 2023. 

Vanier's Marcus Capili headed to Canada Summer Games as top-level cyclist

Seventeen-year-old Marcus Capili is set to represent Saskatchewan at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in Newfoundland next month, the next step in an athletic journey that has already made him one of Moose Jaw’s most promising dual-sport competitors.

Capili, a Vanier Collegiate student, will compete in three cycling events: the road race, time trial, and criterium. He’s looking forward to the opportunity, calling it a critical stepping stone.

“It’s pretty cool. It’s a good opportunity to kind of get my name out there too,” Capili said this week.

The commanding officer of the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa has been removed from his post in connection with a probe into the "Blue Hackle Mafia" social media group, Lt-Gen Michael Wright said in a statement to army ranks Wednesday and shared with The Canadian Press Thursday.

The All Canada Classic Sheep Show returned to Brandon this past weekend, bringing together sheep producers from across the country to showcase breeding stock and connect with fellow industry members.

With about 250 sheep for sale and attendees from Nova Scotia to British Columbia, the event marked a milestone for the national sheep industry.

Brandon last hosted the national show in 1981, and the event remained here for three years before moving westward across the country.

Police arrest 17-year-old wanted for attempted murder

The Moose Jaw Police Service have arrested and charged a 17-year-old boy wanted for attempted murder following a police operation on the 1100 block of Willow Avenue on Tuesday.

The police operation was in connection to a weapons call the Moose Jaw Police Service received on Monday on the North Service Road.

According to police, a youth suspect shot the victim and fled the area in a vehicle. The victim was attended to by EMS and transported to hospital with serious injuries. Police say the two individual were known to each other.

Moose Jaw welcoming wildfire evacuees, City and Chamber call for local help and support

As forest fires continue to displace residents in northern Saskatchewan, Moose Jaw is stepping up as a temporary refuge — and the local business community is being asked to help.

The Moose Jaw & District Chamber of Commerce has confirmed that eight evacuees from the Beauval area have already arrived and are staying at local hotels, with at least 30 more evacuees expected in the coming days. The numbers are expected to fluctuate as the situation evolves.

Meet PSD Draco, the newest member of the MJPS canine unit

The Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners was introduced to PSD Draco, the newest member of the Moose Jaw Police Service canine unit. 

Draco, a 17-month-old Belgian Malinois, came to the Moose Jaw Police Service from a 17-year veteran of the Regina Police Service canine unit. 

That officer had purchased two dogs, including Draco, to train independently.
