It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yvonne Carol Wright, who peacefully departed on July 12, 2025, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan at the age of 74. Yvonne was born on August 15, 1950, in Regina, Saskatchewan, and was a beloved daughter to Dorothy and Lawrence Maier.

Yvonne was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Lawrence, brother David and sister Donna.

Young says Saskatchewan poised as 'energy superpower' despite fires, drought, and political tension

Saskatchewan Energy and Resources Minister Colleen Young said the province remains on track to position itself as a global energy and resource superpower — even as wildfires, drought, and geopolitical uncertainty create major challenges for the province’s economy and environment.

Speaking at Mosaic’s Belle Plaine potash mine east of Moose Jaw on Tuesday, Young pointed to rising potash and uranium production, significant oil and gas activity, and growth in emerging sectors like helium, lithium, copper and zinc.

City council hears report on Moose Jaw's advertising and sponsorship program

Moose Jaw City Council’s executive committee received an update this week on how the City’s advertising and sponsorship program is supporting local recreation facilities, including new naming rights agreements and ongoing opportunities for local businesses.

Scott Osmachenko, Recreation Services Manager, presented the report Monday, noting that $158,423 in net revenue was generated in 2024, with $88,824 collected as of July 14 this year.

Moose Jaw man sentenced to five-year in overdose death of another inmate

A Moose Jaw man has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to criminal negligence causing death in connection with the fatal cocaine overdose of another inmate.

Mitch Schoffer, 42, appeared in Regina Provincial Court recently, where he admitted his actions led to the death of 38-year-old Thomas Kundert on Feb. 8, 2021.

Rain provides relief in Manitoba's latest crop report

A spokesperson for Manitoba Agriculture says it remains to be seen what sort of damage was felt on fields from last week's hail.

Hail was reported in numerous locations across the province, and Oilseed Specialist Sonia Wilson says producers will typically leave those crops for five to seven days, just to see how they rebound, before assessing them for hail damage. 

B.C. pilot charged with hijacking and terrorism over Vancouver flight

A man charged with hijacking a light plane at Victoria International Airport and flying it to Vancouver had an "ideological motive to disrupt airspace" and seized control of the aircraft after threatening a flight instructor, RCMP said Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada said a charge of hijacking had been filed in Richmond, B.C., constituting a "terrorist activity" and a "terrorist offence" under two sections of the Criminal Code.

RCMP said Shaheer Cassim, 39, is set to appear in court next Tuesday.

Unionized Canada Post workers to vote on deal starting July 21

Unionized Canada Post workers will get a chance to vote directly on the employer's offers for a new collective agreement starting on Monday.

The Canada Industrial Relations Board will run the vote between July 21 and Aug. 1.

A simple majority vote will decide whether the proposal is accepted or rejected.

Canada Post is at an impasse with the union representing roughly 55,000 postal service workers after 19 months of talks.

Moose Jaw woman charged with attempted murder makes first court appearance

A 30-year-old woman made her first court appearance Wednesday after being arrested during a police operation in the Lakeview Trailer Court the day before. 

Meagan Windover appeared in custody in Moose Jaw provincial court. 

She faces several charges, including attempted murder, uttering threats, theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, mischief and failing to attend court. 

Camp day at Tim Hortons supports youth across Canada

800 CHAB, Country 100 and, Mix 103 broadcasted live at Tim Hortons Camp Day in Moose Jaw for the annual fundraiser where one hundred percent of proceeds from hot and iced coffee sales go directly to Tim Hortons Foundation camps. The initiative helps youth from underserved communities build life skills, leadership, and confidence through camp experiences.
