Burrowing owl chicks are beginning to take flight: Nature Sask reminds drivers to watch out

Nature Saskatchewan is urging motorists across the province to keep an eye out for young Burrowing Owls this month, as fledglings begin venturing from their nests to learn how to hunt and fly.

The organization says mid-July is a key milestone in the species’ life cycle, when juvenile owls leave the care of their parents to explore nearby burrows and test their hunting skills. Many young owls forage in roadside ditches and can easily (and dangerously) learn to prefer roadside hunting locations.

Carnie's Comments - Golf Champ!

Carnie's Comments

As the provincial amateur golf championship season is upon us I'm thinking of my late father, George.

He loved to play. He wasn't exactly competitive, but he enjoyed his annual trip to the Saskatchewan Senior Championship. While he challenged himself to play well, he knew he wasn't in the elite class of golfers who could win it.

However, when he reached the age of 75 and qualified for the "legends" category, he was among the best.
