Free family movie night coming to South Hill

Moose Jaw families are in for a nostalgic treat this weekend as the South Hill Community Association hosts a free outdoor movie night at Smith Park. The event is set for Saturday, August 23rd at 8:30 PM.

The featured film is none other than the beloved classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, and drinks; the association will provide free popcorn to enjoy during the movie.

Assiniboia RCMP continue search for 40-year-old male, request public assistance

The Assiniboia RCMP is asking to report all sightings and information on the whereabouts of Phillippe Beaulieu.

The 40-year-old male, who also goes by the name of "Phil" was last confirmed to have been seen on July 19, 2025, in Mossbank, SK.

Phil is described as being six feet tall, weighing 200lbs, with grey eyes and short blond hair. Phil also has a diamond tattoo on his cheek and a nose piercing.

Moose Jaw's heat tops charts and shatters record: ECCC

Moose Jaw’s heat wave has topped the charts once again, securing our place as the hottest in the nation and shattering a record in the process. 

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, yesterday’s heat peaked at 36.6°C, edging out the previous record of 36.4°C set back in 2020. 

While temperatures soared in communities across southern Saskatchewan, meteorologist Crawford Luke was surprised to see that we were the only location to break a record yesterday. 

$3.75 million program to build or improve Saskatchewan school playgrounds opens this fall

A $3.75 million annual investment from the Government of Saskatchewan into a new program to help fund school playground equipment in communities across the province is coming this fall. Through the program, up to $50,000 in matched funding will be available for schools to build new or update existing playground equipment.

"Our government recognizes that every child deserves a place to play," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Alana Ross said in the announcement.

Local mural artist making her mark across southern Saskatchewan

“Imma do one, maybe two murals this year.” 

That’s what local artist Carly Jaye Smith told herself back in January, according to a social media post. However, those one or two projects have turned into six murals, taking her from Moose Jaw to Regina and Avonlea to make her mark on other communities in southern Saskatchewan. 

Witnesses say late-morning housefire caused by lightning strikes

According to witnesses, lightning strikes during a late-morning thunderstorm are the cause of blaze at a residence on the south shore of Buffalo Pound Lake. The Moose Jaw Fire Department could not confirm the cause of the fire at this time

Area residents were first on the scene, and the Moose Jaw Fire Department (MJFD) responded shortly after. The Moose Jaw Fire Department says two units were called to the blaze

Journey to Hope dissolving in November, legacy fund to be created

Local community-based organization, Journey to Hope made a major announcement via their Facebook page this morning.

After much soulful consideration, it has been determined by the Journey to Hope Moose Jaw Board that Journey to Hope, Moose Jaw has reached the fullness of time and will dissolve as of November 1, 2025.

13U AAA Canucks place 6th in Chilliwack

The U13 AAA Canucks concluded a memorable season with a strong showing at the Western Canadian Baseball Championship in Chilliwack, B.C., held from August 15 to 17.

Despite challenging weather, the Canucks went 2–2 in pool play, including a tough three-inning tie-breaker loss that kept them just shy of the playoffs. They went on to compete in the consolation round, finishing sixth overall.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Carol Ann Huffman, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Friday August 15, 2025.

Carol was born in Moose Jaw on February 22, 1948, the seventh of eight children to parents Gladys and James. She was the mother of five children with her previous spouse. Carol was predeceased by her spouse Jerry Norris SR, with whom she had one more child. She is survived by four children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
