We could be in for a long, hot, dry summer

The Weather Network's Summer Forecast is calling for above-normal temperatures for the Prairies.

The southern half of the provinces will experience well-above-normal temperatures due to a heat dome in the U.S.

A heat dome occurs when a high-pressure system traps hot air over a region, causing prolonged periods of extreme heat.

Meteorologist Rhythm Reet says this means we could see excessive heat for a longer period and more frequent heat waves; it also influences where the storm track will be setting up.

Carnie's Comments - Throwback Thursday

Carnie's Comments

It's Throwback Thursday - just a minute to remember the good old days.

I'm thinking of an old childhood friend today. It's his birthday. Why I remember, how I remember that I don't know. We haven't really stayed in touch. We've exchanged an email or two over the years, but I haven't seen him for about 30.

Funny, though, I can still tell you the telephone number I'd call to talk to him when we were in grade 3 in 1973.

In fact, I can recite the landline telephone numbers for a number of my old pals from elementary school.

Moose Jaw launching self-funding Storm Water Utility at $9.80/month

Approved in the 2025 budget, Moose Jaw will introduce a new Storm Water Utility fee of $9.80 per month on every property’s utility bill starting July 1, 2025. Unlike previous funding — pulled from general capital and operating budgets — this dedicated utility is designed to be self-funding, covering both maintenance and rehabilitation of storm water infrastructure.

Periodic rate reviews will address future cost increases, and by 2026, all storm water maintenance costs will shift from the operating budget into the new utility.

Since January 1, 2025, the province has recorded 229 wildfires, well above the five-year average of 132.

Moose Jaw's Helland sets career saves record at MNU
