Plea deal turns complicated in Dillon Peeace’s attempted murder case

What should have been a simple plea deal in Dillon Peeace’s attempted murder case has become complicated. 

The case returned to Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Wednesday because Provincial Crown Prosecutor Rob Parker required defence lawyer Brian Pfefferle to submit documentation as part of a plea deal to have an attempted murder charge stayed. 

NDP visits Moose Jaw to criticize Moe and pledge a tough-on-crime government

Meara Conway, the NDP candidate for Regina Elphinstone-Centre, made an appearance in Moose Jaw on Thursday to criticize Scott Moe’s record on crime. She was joined by Moose Jaw resident Phil Rose. 

Following her election in 2020, Conway was the Official Opposition Critic for Social Services, Housing, and Community-Based Organizations, and served as the NDP Deputy House Leader.  

UPDATE: Subject of Amber Alert located, suspect arrested

An Amber Alert that had been issued early this evening by Waskesiu RCMP has been cancelled.

The Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP received a report at around 2 p.m. that a five-day-old baby had been taken from a residence on Montreal Cree Nation. RCMP officers responded and the investigation determined that the baby had been taken by the father.

A subsequent investigation led to an Amber Alert being issued at 5:08 p.m. The RCMP noted that the alert stated the baby was taken from the health clinic. The information was gathered during the initial response and was incorrect.

RM of Baildon disqualifies councillor for skirting conflict of interest rules

RM of Baildon #131 Coun. Jerry Kaiser has been disqualified from office for breaking conflict of interest rules, according to a statement released on Thursday by the rural municipality.

The statement says that councillors are required to recuse themselves from deliberations and voting on matters when they are in a conflict of interest.

Highway 2 near Chamberlain closed due to accident

Craik RCMP are at the scene of a serious accident on Highway 2 west of Chamberlain, about one kilometre north of the Highway 2 and Highway 733 junction.

Both southbound and northbound lanes are currently closed.

STARS Air Ambulance posted on X that it had also been dispatched for a "scene call emergency" in the Chamberlain area.

Detours are in place and motorists could expect delays in the area. Motorists are also asked to follow the instructions of emergency personnel on the scene.

Canadian Grain Commission dipping into surplus to keep fees steady

The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is going to be reaching into its surplus for the first time in a while in order to cover its cost.

That comes as grain volumes are falling for Canada, and the commission needs more funds to keep up with their costs.

That's why they're dipping into their surplus, with Head Commissioner David Hunt explaining that came from their most recent financial review.

Police seeking two suspects in two July incidents

The Moose Jaw Police Service said that an individual previously reported to be a suspect in a July 18, 2024, incident has been cleared of all wrongdoing following an investigation.

Police say they are still looking for two people who reportedly accosted an elderly man in a grocery store parking lot and stole his wallet. They add that those same individuals are also suspects in a second incident on July 18, 2024.
