Comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas still visible

Many people around Moose Jaw have had their heads in the stars over the last week and will for another handful of days with Comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas passing by Earth.

Found in 2023 by astronomers, Tsuchinshan-Atlas has been making its way towards Earth for tens of thousands of years. On September 27, it wrapped around the sun and now is making its way out of the solar system while passing by earth.

Harry Joseph “Toby” Tobias

Harry “Toby” Joseph Tobias passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the age of 79 years. Toby was born on December 29, 1944, in a small town outside of Vienna, Austria to mother Giselle, his birth father was tragically killed during World War II. He immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of five years, his mother remarried, and he gained a stepfather Ernest Tobias. He attended elementary school and high school in Regina, graduating two years early at the age of 16 years. He left home and settled in Lajord, SK, working at the Bank of Commerce.

The Scott Woods Band to Perform Live in Moose Jaw on Yeehaw Tour

Canadian fiddle champion Scott Woods brings the best of country music, trick fiddling, step dancing, humour, and so much more. Scott Woods, alongside his sister, champion fiddler Kendra Norris, step-dancing champion Leo Stock, guitar virtuoso Steve Piticco, and vocalist Kirk Bernard, will be in Moose Jaw on Thursday, October 24th, as part of their Yeehaw Tour. They’ll be performing at the XYZ Auditorium at Timothy Eaton's, located at 510 Main Street North.

It's Throwback Thursday - just a minute to remember the good ol' days.

Let me take you back to the summer of 1984. I was working outdoors as a playground supervisor at a place called Elgin Park in Moose Jaw. We had a paddling pool and a beautiful park space to enjoy.

Of course, we had music - the radio! 

A lot of the kids, including myself, were diggin' a fresh new sound from a Canadian band called Honeymoon Suite. They had just released their first album in June of '84.

Sports Round-Up: Thursday, October 17

The Moose Jaw Warriors are preparing to face the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Hangar tomorrow. It’s Military Appreciation Night. 
Local members of the military from the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, 15-Wing Moose Jaw and the Saskatchewan Dragoons will be special guests.

Senior Boys volleyball last night, Vanier shutout Cornerstone 3 sets to none, and it was Peacock over Briercrest 3 sets to 1. 

Tier 1 volleyball for the Senior Girls, Cornerstone beat Peacock 3 sets to none, and Vanier won 3 sets to none against Briercrest.

While it’s cooling down today, southern Saskatchewan has seen some unseasonably warm temperatures this fall. 

“Most of the low-pressure systems have been tracking through the northern Prairies or even into the Territories, and that’s allowed for warm air to flood northward,” explained Chris Stammers, meteorologist with Environment Canada. 

AFN head urges support for child welfare deal, says they won't get better from Tories

The national chief of the Assembly of First Nations is urging chiefs to vote in favour of a landmark child welfare deal with Ottawa, saying she doesn't think a better agreement would be possible under a different federal government.

Some chiefs are campaigning to vote down the $47.8-billion child welfare reform agreement at an assembly in Calgary this week.

Your candidates weigh in: safe injection sites and addictions support

The provincial election season is heating up, as such our local candidates addressed the community directly during Tuesday night's All-Candidates forum. Many questions were raised, among them was the issue of mental health and addictions that has remained a constant concern for many of Moose Jaw’s residents. 

During the forum the four prospective MLAs were asked by members of the community on how they would best tackle the city’s growing concerns, especially within the downtown core.
