Miller Express drop three straight to open WCBL season
It wasn’t the start that the Moose Jaw Miller Express was hoping for to open the 2022 Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs.
The Miller Express held their home opener on Friday night at Ross Wells Park, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Medicine Hat Mavericks.
Moose Jaw found themselves down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning when Nate Mensik hit a two-run home run to get the Miller Express within one, but couldn’t find the tying run.
Moose Jaw Police serving up pizza for Special Olympics
Members of the Moose Jaw Police Service will be serving up pizza at the Boston Pizza Manitoba Street East location tomorrow for Special Olympics Saskatchewan.
Cops, Pops and Pizza is a Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraising event where police officers and Special Olympic athletes and volunteers will be serving up some delicious food.
They will be serving from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will be collecting donations.
Cops, Pops and Pizza are taking place across the province with the hopes of raising $10,000 for Special Olympics Saskatchewan.
Paving begins on Main Street north of CN tracks today
The Ministry of Highways will be paving Main Street northbound, north of the CN railway tracks beginning this morning.
Northbound traffic will be diverted across to Main Street southbound into two-way traffic from Town and Country Drive to Thatcher Drive.
Detours will be in place and flaggers will be directing traffic at the intersections.
Flying Fins win 16 medals in Regina
The Moose Jaw Flying Fins swam away with 16 medals at the Regina Optimist Dolphin Invitational last weekend.
Sixteen swimmers from Moose Jaw competed against over 200 swimmers from across the province.
Elizabeth Colenutt and Colten Cushing led the team in personal bests, swimming 100 per cent lifetime bests at the meet. Colenutt was the Flying Fins female swimmer of the meet.
Major equipment arrives at the Great Plains Power Station site
Some major equipment has arrived at the site of SaskPower’s future Great Plains Power Station, located in the Agri-Food Industrial Power just south of the city.
This includes the main gas turbine, which travelled from Yellow Grass to Moose Jaw on Tuesday night. The turbine itself weighs about half a million pounds.
Paving taking place this week on Main Street North
You may have noticed some paving work that is taking place on Main Street, north of Thatcher Drive.
The paving is expected to continue for the remainder of this week, so traffic will be restricted to one lane.
Meanwhile, the Main Street exit ramp off of Highway 1 eastbound will be closed. A detour is in place before the Ninth Avenue intersection diverting over-height loads heading east on Highway 1 to the North Service Road.
There is also construction in the right turning lane on Highway 1 westbound near the JGL intersection.
[VIDEO] Tornado sighted north of Moose Jaw
Funnel clouds and tornadoes were seen northwest of Moose Jaw near the village of Keeler with the storm heading southeast.
The severe thunderstorm warning has ended for Moose Jaw and the area.
If you see threatening weather approaching, go indoors and take cover immediately.
