Grande Prairie RCMP Rural GIS conducts arrests after spotting stolen vehicle

On June 19, 2025, Grande Prairie RCMP Rural General Investigation Section (GIS) observed a stolen vehicle in the Clairmont, Alta., area. The vehicle then made its way to Grande Prairie where a traffic stop was conducted by the Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and all occupants were arrested. A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest revealed a loaded sawed-off shotgun with the safety off near a set of zipties.

Grande Prairie RCMP traffic stop leads to arrest warrant execution and drug seizure

On June 7, 2025, Grande Prairie RCMP members conducted a traffic stop on a Jeep Cherokee whose registered owner was wanted on outstanding warrants for failure to comply with court orders. The driver was identified and confirmed to be on warrants, for which he was arrested. A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest resulted in the seizure of:

Bear sighting near the City of Grande Prairie

Trail users in Grande Prairie were alerted yesterday morning after a black bear was spotted on the Waxwing Trail outer loop, south of Grande Banks. 

Alberta Fish and Wildlife has been notified and are monitoring the situation alongside park officials,

Visitors are urged to stay on the trail, keep their distance, and report any further sightings immediately.

Trail safety remains the top priority as wildlife activity increases in the area.

 

 

City of GP looking for municipal election workers

The City of Grande Prairie is now accepting applications for election workers to support the upcoming 2025 Municipal Election.

Election workers play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of the voting process. Multiple paid positions are available for both Advanced Voting and Election Day, offering an opportunity to contribute to the democratic process while earning income in a temporary role.

Voting Dates and Polling Station Times:

·       Advanced Voting: October 9–11 and October 16–18, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily

Road work and traffic signal maintenance planned for June 30

Grande Prairie drivers can expect minor delays Monday, June 30, as the City carries out guardrail repairs and traffic signal maintenance at key locations.

Crews will be working on the 99 Avenue eastbound bridge and the 132 Avenue bridge east of 116 Street to maintain the safety of the approach rail systems. Expect minor lane closures on 99 Avenue and reduced speeds (50 km/h) on 132 Avenue during the work.

Traffic signal maintenance is also scheduled at the 116 Avenue and 102 Street intersection, with possible lane closures.

Significant drug seizure by Rural Grande Prairie County RCMP

On June 21, 2025, the Rural Grande Prairie County RCMP were conducting proactive patrols in the Clairmont area when they pulled over a vehicle. In the course of the traffic stop, officers noted drug paraphernalia, which resulted in the arrest of the occupant and the subsequent search of the vehicle. The search revealed approximately 4.237 kilograms of methamphetamine, 1.589 kilograms of cocaine and just over $11,000 in Canadian currency, believed to be proceeds of crime.

As a result of he investigation, Chad Simonson (50), a resident of Grande Prairie, was charged with:

RCMP Serious Crime Branch is actively investigating the homicide which took place on June 22, 2025, on Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. The investigation has identified a suspect. Brandon Munro (35), of no fixed address, is wanted for the second-degree murder of Isiah Cardinal (28), a resident of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

RCMP is seeking public assistance in locating Munro.
