Conservatives plan national campaign against federal electric vehicle mandates
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has set his sights on Canada's electric vehicle mandate, pledging Thursday that his party will embark on a national campaign to push the Liberal government to scrap the policy he's dubbed the "Carney tax."
Poilievre led the charge as the Conservatives relentlessly attacked the consumer carbon price over the last two years, with the Liberals admitting the Tory tactics swayed public opinion and forced them to end the so-called carbon tax earlier this year.

The Classic 107 Cruiser was at the Pembina Curling Club, 1341 Pembina Highway, for the India Pavilion as part of Folklorama on Thursday evening.
The Cruiser then made its way to St. Norbert Community Centre, 3450 Pembina Highway, for the Pearl of the Orient Philippine Pavilion.
The India Pavilion had a grand cultural display with booths showcasing different cultures in India. There were various dances throughout the show featuring traditional, modern, and blended styles.
Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Winnipeg and much of southern Manitoba
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Winnipeg and a wide area of southern Manitoba as a cold front moves through the region Thursday afternoon and evening.
The watch, issued at 1:41 p.m., also covers communities including Selkirk, Portage la Prairie, Steinbach, Morden, Gimli, the Whiteshell, and areas as far north as Berens River and Little Grand Rapids.
Forecasters say conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail, heavy rain, and dangerous lightning.

Traffic disrupted as power outage hits north Main Street
Hundreds of residents in Winnipeg's St. John's neighbourhood are waking up in the dark Thursday morning.
A power outage is affecting well over 1,000 customers in the area.
The outage is also impacting traffic in the area, knocking out traffic signals at several busy intersections along Main Street, including at Redwood and Mountain Avenues.

Winnipeg Film Group shares 'new wave musicals' in summer screening series
The stereotypical image of the Hollywood musicals of the mid-20th century will be challenged with the latest series of screenings from the Winnipeg Film Group this month. The organization, which runs the Dave Barber Cinematheque in the Exchange District, is presenting three of the so-called “new wave musicals” of the French director Jacques Demy in the Rooftop Sculpture Garden at the Winnipeg Art Gallery – Qaumajuq, who invited the group to curate the series.
