Some adult migrants had already been picked up after trying to walk undetected across the border on Jan. 19, 2022. One of them had a backpack, and Huguley said he looked inside.
Treacherous driving conditions lead to school closures across western Manitoba
Several schools are closed Wednesday morning after a low-pressure system brought significant winter weather to western Manitoba.
This has led to treacherous driving conditions on highways in the area, and ultimately the closure of schools.
The system is weakening and conditions are expected to improve by this afternoon.

Worst of low-pressure weather system over in Manitoba
Western Manitoba received most of the snowfall from the recent low-pressure system with Winnipeg receiving only a dusting of snow.
"With this storm, western Manitoba was set up to get the worst of it," says Shannon Moodie, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. "Heavy snowfall, really gusty winds, blowing snow, and a lot of travel not recommended. For the Red River Valley we stayed more in the warmer air."

Suspect charged in Alexander Avenue stabbing
A 21-year-old has been arrested following the stabbing death of a 23-year-old on November 8, 2024.
The Homicide Unit continued to investigate after 23-year-old Jamal Eli Preston Miles was stabbed and killed in the 500 block of Alexander Avenue.
On November 18, a 21-year-old was arrested at the Winnipeg Remand Centre where he was currently being lodged for a different matter.
He has been charged with Second Degree Murder and remains in custody.
NDP throne speech lays out plans to freeze hydro rates, commission bison statue

A ‘lot of ground’ remains between Canada Post, workers as strike talks progress
Canada Post and the postal workers union found slivers of consensus Tuesday amid talks with a special mediator, but "a lot of ground" remains between them on the key concerns as a countrywide strike entered its fifth day.
“On smaller issues, we were able to find some progress,” said Canada Post spokesman Jon Hamilton in a phone interview.
"The special mediator has helped facilitate those discussions. So we're going to continue to be at it. We're committed to getting collective agreements," he said, adding that arbitration is off the table for now.
