Winnipeg police investigating homicide after man found dead in West End back lane

The Winnipeg Police Service is asking for the public's assistance in solving the city's most recent homicide. 

Just before 10 a.m. on Friday, officers were called to a back lane in the 700 block of Wellington Avenue, where they found a deceased man. 

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Bronson Emery Dale Kequahtooway, who was living in Winnipeg but originally from Zagime Anishinabek First Nation, in Saskatchewan.

The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.

'Still very dire': Canadian Red Cross is fundraising following Myanmar earthquake

A representative for the Canadian Red Cross says the situation on the ground in Myanmar is "still very dire and tragic" days after a massive earthquake that has killed more than 1,700 people.

Canadian Red Cross operations lead Chiran Livera said teams of staff and volunteers made up of both international and local Red Cross workers were in Myanmar when the quake hit on Friday, and they have been able to distribute help, including water and shelter kits, from warehouses stationed around the country.

Man arrested after violent outburst at Sherbrook Street restaurant

A 27-year-old man is facing assault charges following a chaotic scene at a West End restaurant. 

Officers were called to a restaurant at the corner Sherbrook Street and Notre Dame Avenue shortly after 7:45 p.m. on Friday, where they found a man causing a disturbance, destroying property and throwing various items at a 39-year-old staff member.

The man continued to throw things, even at the officers when they arrived. The man was not compliant during his arrest and police were forced to use their taser to safely take the suspect into custody.

Minnesota driver causes multi-vehicle crash in Winnipeg

A 63-year-old man from St. Paul, Minnesota is in custody following a collision late Saturday afternoon. 

The multi-vehicle collision happened just before 5 p.m. near Waverley Street and the Perimeter Highway.

Winnipeg police say the man, who was impaired at the time, was travelling east on the Perimeter Highway in a 2021 Honda Ridgeline and failed to stop at the intersection of Waverley Street, colliding with the rear of another vehicle, causing a multi-vehicle collision.
